You'd think if your scouting staff had been good enough to accumulate so many good players, fairness dictates that you'd get to keep 'em . . . but no, not so. Instead, you've been charged with the duty of sharing them with 31 other professional teams, many of which you either literally hate or oftentimes are barely able to tolerate.

That's life in the NFL and so we venture into a setting whereby we bid adieu to players we've grown to admire and hope that they'd become part of our special team. We'll really hate to seem many of them go but that's life in the NFL for the teams, their players and their fans. To those unfortunate souls who are destined to move on, good luck fellas . . . may you find success wherever you go.

There arent nearly as many questions about who makes the roster as in years past. Its mainly 1) How many DL make the 53 2) Can they get Gibson on the PS 3) How many Safeties do they keep 4) How many TE's

Its almost like players are competing with players from other positions for a roster spot

That is the main difference. This roster is not that much "better" where there will be oodles of talent left on the vine for other teams to pluck. The roster is a little less up in the air and coming off a winning season, to be expected.

QB - Same
RB - Worse
WR - Same, perhaps worse if due to lack of definite 5th WR
TE - Same
OL - Better, but we will keep the ones that make it so.
DL - Much Better, and the one place where we might lose a decent player or two
LB - Slightly better
DS - Slightly better, but again, we will keep the talent
ST - Worse

Outside of the DL, I do not see this hidden talent.

On paper, we have an awesome team, but one thing about the NFL is that doesn't always translate to Ws. I remember the Eagles with their 'dream-team'. If all of the talent comes together, we do have enough talent to win a superbowl, but we can't believe that since we got 12 wins last year and that we improved this year that we'll automatically beat that record.

there's more talent here now than there has been in many years. what it will lead to, i don't know -- but the team is definitely headed in the right direction.

Unfortunately (or maybe not so unfortunately), this means that the most important members of this organization are those who evaluate and acquire players, instead of the individual players themselves. Players come and go, but the members of the front office are here as long as we continue to pay them.

Luckily for us these days, we're not doing so bad in this area.

Only in "Cowboy Fantasyland" does a team lose an 1800 yd rusher with 13td's and actually get better.

Your offseason spent in Philly watching the local media heap praises in the Eagles ability to "steal" Murray away from the Cowboys has obviously left a big impression on you.

You may find an Abe Elam but that has more to do with the lack of talent around the league then anything else. Bad players get forced to start for bad teams

I really don't know how to respond to this because it's very obvious we have more talented players today than we did 6 months ago. Or am I missing something?

As far as overall talent goes, though, those 2007-ish teams that Parcells built we're deep teams. And we all know how those turned out.

This team has a lot more depth on the projected 53 than we've seen in years. We're four deep at TE, and will have a DL or CB or two other teams might look at. Pretty much just what you'd expect from any contender's roster. We could still be a lot deeper.

The DL of course. Secondary, maybe.

That does not apply across the roster. The idea is that there are too many good players that may be let go. Besides the areas I acknowledged, where are they?

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that there is only one position of importance in football.

Question. Going into last season how highly did you rank Murray on importance to the Cowboys season?

Really? Who's that good that could get cut and make another team?

Besides the DL and DB's, lose Parnell add Collins makes the OL better, the LB's are better, Whitehead replaces Harris to early to tell how that pans out but with the constant praise heaped on all our WR's I want to say they are better, I'm running out of areas to mention.

Will McClay has done a magnificent job of acquiring the necessary players to elevate the quality of this team. Let's hope that he's ultimately not tempted to migrate to another one with an offer to become it's GM. I would hope Jerry does whatever might be necessary to keep him in house, even if he's required to abandon that position. Granted, he's stubbornly refused to do so in the past but it may come to a point where that's what it will take. Scary, huh?

And you still are answering a question wasn't asked. You can reasonably argue that this team has gotten better in key areas, but again, where is all this talent that we will have to let go off? We have gotten deeper in certain areas, others stayed the same, others got worse. We are not letting any of the decent OL go. We might have replaced Cam Lawrence with a better LBer but the overall talent level isn't proven to be better than it was at the start of last season with Durant/Carter on the roster.
