BTB: Doug Free Play by Play

Pass play, long pass, Doug has no one to block again. Just stands there looking for someone.

Are we paying this guy just to stand around? What a wasted draft pick!

Free has to show it week in and week out. I was happy with his play vs Oakland he will get another test this weekend vs Tenn.

Oh yeah there is the first answer. Thats when Kitna got drilled by like 3 guys. There was another play where he got smothered, it might not have been a sack but he got hit hard.

Do we have a center that can snap a ball to the QB in shotgun formation on the team consistently (and I don't mean over the QB's head)?

One thing is for sure we have backup coverage issues. Oakland ate our backups alive. Guys that aren't even going to make the team were catching balls like they were Jerry Rice.

Friggin Gradkowski looked like Aikman against our backups.

According to the Raiders broad cast (It was the only feed the sport bar had) Raider had 3 of their starting lineman playing close to 3 full qrts. Overall I was not thrilled with how many of the backups played they went back to practice and will get ready to face Tenn. and we will see who shows improvement or not. This is part of training camp and pre-season sorry if I don't get overly worked up over it. I have only been watching it for around 48 years and I have seen poor pre-season game many time over the course of those years.

Nope. Only one guy even touched him. Kitna fell on the ball, and one of the Raiders rolled over the top of him.

There was another play where he got smothered, it might not have been a sack but he got hit hard.

There were no other plays (other than the sack vs. Choice) when Kitna got smothered at all. He threw 10 passes, plus one that was wiped out by a defensive penalty. On eight of those 11 passes, he wasn't even touched. On one, Free's guy got in Kitna's face after he threw it. On another, Gibbons' guy pushed him down after he threw it. And on another, McQuistan's guy grabbed Kitna from behind after he threw it. He was never "drilled," "smothered" or "hit hard" on any of those plays.

From what I could see most of the time he was up against a #77. Who certainly is not much of a threat. I also noticed tat they had the TE next to free for a lot of the plays. I want to see him out on an island blocking a good rusher. I am not talking about someone great like Ware but someone who is good. You might remember that BUtler beet Free around half the time at camp.

That's Matt Shaughnessy, who was drafted early in the third round (two spots after Jason Williams).

I also noticed tat they had the TE next to free for a lot of the plays.

There was almost never a TE pass-blocking on Free's side. Free was on the field for 28 pass plays. On 25 of them, he had no help at all. On the other three, the TE was there to block the OLB and Free had the defensive end. None of them were designed to give Free help with his man.

How did Butler look doing that as the Raiders dumped the ball into his zone time after time? Note, I'm not digging on Butler. He's a Pac 10 guy and I like him. But over aggressive play often leads to other potential issues and we saw them.

Face it, your Free can't play until proven otherwise rant looks as laughable as I said it would.

I could give a flying flip what anybody here says whether I agree with you or not. Their lives just aren't that significant to me.

I just realized, by virtue of this blog the creators are now kissing my *** too. They basically backed me up that he is an impact player. Poor saps.
