My takeaways from the article:

1st team pass o played great in every practice type (1 on 1, 7 on 7, team). Sounds like a lot of deep and middle of the field shots. Pollard beat LVE deep but I'm surprised LVE was even in the vicinity.

After Saturday's showing, the 1st team offense had a good day in the red zone.

Maher went perfect for the day.

That 4th qb they picked up is now a receiver, probably.

Not stated in this tho is that both Jarwin and Schultz were out with injuries. Time to call 1-800-TIGHTEND, I'm guessing.

While on the BTB site, I read their stock up, stock down for the bubble players. I'm not to the point yet where I think it will happen, but if Ricky Walker continues to show up the way that he did in this game, I won't be surprised if he ends up being kept over Christian Covington.

Wish I would have seen this, I would have added the link to the thread I just created.
Though mine was from DC.com Different report but basically the same info.

Maybe the mods can merge mine into this one.

LVE even being in the neighborhood of Pollard on a deep pass like that is rather incredible, IMO.
Agreed. Those drills are a offensive still. There's zero pass rush the defense is at a major disadvantage.

I am still chuckling at the story that the Cowboys are concerned that our kicker might not be able to be consistent from one side of the field.

LOL.

I'm glad our shaky kicker amuses some of you.

Maher is just another example of how this front office can't just admit they might be making a mistake. They dumped Bailey for this guy and now they simply can't admit that they might have a K problem because they feel it will then fall back into a criticism of them letting Bailey g (which, IMO, wasn't a bad decision).

Just admit what we all know, bring in another kicker and go from there. They have to have the season almost cave on them before they admit they screwed up (like WR last year).

the cowboys were right to release bailey. after his groin injury, he was never the same. find steve Hoffman. bring him back.

I don't understand when you have young kickers why you don't have a kicking coach. I can understand not feeling that you have to with a veteran, but these young kickers could use insight from someone who knows how to play their position.

Missing to the right could be as simple as alignment before the kick, foot placement or even what he is eyeing just before or as he kicks. Pro golfers works with golf coaches to make sure their swing is right. Kickers need the same thing.

baily was injured I believe and his season average last year was similar to Maher..

not saying I am sold o Maher...he has strong leg, but thos 30-40 yard misses will kill you

What other kicker would you prefer to sign?

Matt Bryant, 44 years old with a leg injury who just got cut by his team of the last 10 seasons? Dan Bailey, who the Vikings just spent a 5th rounder replacing because they didn't want him on the field next season? Maybe Cody Parkey, the most hated man in Chicago?

I get that Maher isn't good, but kickers that are good year after year are rare. Most teams do what we're doing and just churn-n-burn through scrubs until one guy sticks.

I'm thinking the league that just shut down (AAF?) must have had at least one decent kicker developed. Anyone know?

I agree. How much could a kicking coach cost? $100,000 and a Dallas Cowboys polo? Seems like a small price to pay.

I bet Jerry has that in his wallet right now.

I don't know. Is there a rule about how many coaches you can have on a staff?

Well in their defense on Bailey.....that dude seems to be shot or he was last season anyway. Maher over him seemed to be the right decision. So they were willing to admit they had a kicker problem last season and got rid of Bailey. But the thing about Maher is that if you liked him last season you should still like him his year. I do think he should have some legit competition no doubt but he's been a average kicker.

Could have brought in another college boy. Try out a bunch. Keep the one you like best. Nobody was expecting anything from Maher last year.

Given the unpredictable nature of kicker accuracy generally, another bite at the apple in camp every year seems like a prudent insurance plan.

I thought we did, is Maher the only kicker on the 90?
