BTB: Shaun Rogers On Dallas Cowboys Coordinator Rob Ryan

So, lots of teams interested to some extent, some bringing him in for visits.

We haven't heard anything on the Cowboys making a move, but recently Shaun Rogers was asked about Rob Ryan. Here's what he said.

"Coach Ryan is great. If guys like what they see in his brother, they’re twins so you’re getting the same thing. The level of excitement, the attitude – I want to put this the right way – it’s not a bad attitude, but it’s that swagger and confidence that they possess and what they do and provide to their defense. Defenses are built on attitude. Their attitude most definitely carries over to their defenses. As you see his brother was a D-Coordinator to the Ravens and they had a top defense for a long time. He went to the Jets and brought that same attitude and that toughness to their defense. I think Rob most definitely has that ability. He did well in Oakland and came to Cleveland and made strides with our defense there in several categories. I think with the level of talent in Dallas he will do well."

Heard the same thing from Larry Asante (now with the Bucs) about Coach Ryan from his time in Browns camp and the first part of the year. To quote him, he said "man, you guys will be straight."

Good stuff, if you transfer that to Wade you can see what happened to this defense over the last 2 seasons. You can also see why it will be a top 3 next year without hardly any personel changes, maybe 2 at most.

I really believe that in sports, about 80% of success is all attitude and coaching. There's 5% freak-of-nature superstar athletes that takeover, and the other 15% is teams being able to really just out-athlete another team (our Cowboys in '09).

When teams get better you have to have superior coaching.

The only problem with Rob is that he'll get a Head Coaching gig if he has success here. He'll probably take a number of coaches with him too. Oh well, Jason has impressed me so far with more than just Rob's hire. I'm sure he can replenish the well.

Not every coordinator has aspirations to be a head coach. Rob Ryan may just want to coordinate for several more years before deciding to head coach, if at all.

Al Davis is probably regretting his decision to let Rob leave. I think he would have made a great head coach for them. I think he would have brought back some of that old John Madden Raider attitude

Of course Al has a lot of other rueing to do. He could have had Big Ben, Phillip Rivers, Matt Ryan or Adrian Peterson and he ended up with Robert Gallery, Mike Huff and JaMarcus Russell instead.

That's fine, opinions are fine to have. I just remember being a buck 60 trying to bring down 225lb tight ends, running backs, while shucking 310lb linemen.
