With limited roster spots, should the Cowboys keep Noah Brown or risk losing him before he even makes it to the practice squad?

Noah Brown has been one of the more intriguing topics of discussion for the Dallas Cowboys during training camp and the preseason. The former Ohio State wide receiver was selected by America’s Team in the seventh-round of April’s draft and has shown the potential of developing into a productive receiver for the Cowboys.

But with limited roster spots, should the Cowboys elect to keep Brown on the 53-man roster, or will the team decide to place him on the practice squad with the risk of another team swooping in and adding him to their own roster?

It seems the Cowboys are going to have issues this year with their finals cuts with several players who likely won't make it to the practice squad like Rush, Brown, Gathers, etc.

They are definitely keeping Gathers and Rush.. Brown, although I like 'em, seems to be caught in a numbers crunch. With questions with the secondary and along the DL, he might be sacrificed. Noah may still be able to land on the 53 due to all the suspensions we currently are dealing with.. then, cut during the season to sneak him on the practice squad. Pay em like they paid Gathers last season to ensure he dosent want to go anywhere

It's a heck of a thing that the top 4-5 WRs are locked in & the dilema is which talented WR stays bc I doubt The keep 6+

The depth needed at some positions could force Dallas to risk losing some quality depth at other positions

I hope they find a way to keep Brown on the 53. Can he be a bit of a hybrid TE like Graham and make plays out of the slot? Maybe Hanna is the odd man out, which would save some cap room also.

Rush and Gathers are locks.

Another guy I'd like to see make it is Duke Thomas. He kind of jumps off the tape. No way he gets through waivers.

Please just keep 2 QBs. Do we really think Kellen Moore is going to be the savior if Dak goes down? I'd rather keep as many high upside guys who can help you in 2018 than use a spot on a veteran QB who helps us go 7-9 instead of 5-11 if Dak misses time.

Time for Garrett to step up and give Rush the bulk of the snaps the last 2 games and the #2 spot.

I think that Duke Thomas is the surprise player that nobody saw making the 53. I think he's outplayed Marquez White for that 6th spot. I think they keep Thomas and try to get White to the practice squad.

They will most certainly keep Rush and Gathers. They have real potential. They are going nowhere.

They can keep all 3 in Rush, Brown and Gathers.

They cut Moore, keep rush, easy...the coaches don't need to be coaching if they can't see this.,,,
No OL has really stood out to say keep 9, and they have gone with 8 before. So keep 8, keep Brown. And if they need an OL later on, several of who the cut will still be available. That 9th OL is not going to help like Brown can.
We kept 4 TE's before so they go one less at DB or DL, and they can still keep 9 at each of those positions, or possibly 10, if they go with 6 LB's as well.

They key is RB, how many they keep there, and if Zeke is suspended or not. If Zeke is there, it's easy, Morris goes.
My thinking is maybe Hannas is traded, then they keep 3 TE's. Depends on if they trust Rico over Hanna at that point.

If Dak goes down do any of you think Moore won't be available?

I look at Noah Brown as a large WR/small TE combo. If he gained twenty pounds he would be a TE. Perhaps Noah Brown is competing for that 4th TE position. Witten and Rico are locks at TE. Maybe Brown is competing with Hanna and Swaim. I would seriously consider giving Brown some looks at TE in the next two preseason games. Hanna is injury prone and I think in the final year of his contract which pays $3M this year. Go with Brown as that 4th TE instead of Hanna and you save $2.5M on the cap, which is $2.5M that could go to Zach Martin's new contract. Brown is a good blocker (not as good as Hanna though) and a better weapon in the passing game than Hanna. I give Brown the edge over Hanna when it comes to receiving, availability, and upside.

Yes on Brown. 3 TEs is enough for me. Witten eats up 90% of the snaps anyway. Swaim and Rico for the rest.

Broaddus was saying they could IR Gathers because of the concussion and that could open a spot for Brown

I think they can fit all 3 for game 1 and 2 with DE Moore and Irving out. When Moore and later Irving return then the decisions get more difficult.

Not for nothing but we've been winning these preseason games in the second half. I KNOW they dont count for anything but I think this team is deeper than in previous years. The roster cuts are going to sting. You can add a couple defensive players onto that list as well as Brown. I hope we can find a way....
