So far I have heard one person say they blew up the roster and that is the person in the tweet in this article.
I have no problem churning the roster. Jimmy did it with great success. But Jimmy always had his eye on getting better players than the ones he got rid of.
Getting rid of Cooper was not a bad idea. It was almost necessary because of his CAP hit. In fact, my guess is they had their eye on this move for a while. That's why they never restructured his deal which was made for restructuring. But knowing this was the case then why all the negative talk from the owner before putting him on the market? I would have talked him up until he developed a halo. Then I would have traded him for a decent draft pick. And if no one was willing to offer a 2nd round pick for him, I would have kept him and restructured his deal. I am not a great fan of Cooper but there is no way I would toss him aside for a 5th round pick.
Connor Williams was a problem last year. But do not undersell him. He is a decent LG who got a reputation for holding and the refs took advantage of that. In the right situation he will be a very dependable LG for someone. Still, I would not have kept him. The Cowboys need an upgrade at LG. My problem is they did not do anything to fill this role before the draft. They went into the draft needing to use a high pick on a LG.
La'el Collins is way better than some people here give him credit. He is better than Steele who I think is still a question mark. I read somewhere Collins was asked to move inside to LG and he refused. If so then trading him was the right thing to do. But again, the Cowboys gave away the fact they would cut him if they did not work out a trade so no one made a decent offer for him. Since his CAP relief would not come until June 1 anyway, why not hold onto him until after the draft or even until the season started and someone had a injury in training camp. The Cowboys got his CAP relief and they still have no used it. Players are like stocks. Sell high. The Cowboys and some fans are betting on Steele, Ball and another rookie who hasn't played a down either. They better be right about one of them.
I may be in the minority when it comes to Gregory, but I think he is a disruptive player who helped Parsons and the rest of this defense. He is not a perfect player, which is why he got $14 million not $18 million. At least the Cowboys made an effort to replace him with Fowler and Sam Williams, but it is another question mark if they can get the pressures Gregory had.
Neal and KaZee we no big losses and I don't know of anyone complaining they did not re-sign them. In fact, I think Kazee is last years Xavier Woods. The defense will be better without him.
