And how would keeping Hayden help in this area exactly??? I understand this isn't necessarily the OP's view so don't attack me for that. I'm just saying that Hayden offers no pass rush AND no ability to stop the run, so....

I am not fully sold on him fullyh, so let me just say that. but outside of mcclain, he is the biggest DT we have who is over 300. I know Hardy can play some DT, but his forte is pass rush from DE spot.

Bishop is running 305 and is MUUUUCCHH stouter at the point of attack... just my take on the matter. Also, Coleman has a freakish "get off" if he can get his head on right.

One thing I never understood was people clammoring for more touches for Dunbar, Hanna, Escobar etc.

You have Dez, Jason Witten and Terrence Williams and there's only one football. How many touches do you truly expect for them to get?

Exactly, as far as I'm concerned, they're getting just the right amount of touches. If the offense isn't broke, don't fix it.

Nick Hayden. In Rod Marinelli's scheme, being able to bring pressure and get to the passer is the key attribute he seeks in all his defensive linemen, with flexibility to be effective both from inside and outside on the line a close second. Given that, the clear favor Hayden is shown as a one-tech lane clogger is an anomaly. He doesn't get deep and needs to be off the field in obvious passing downs. Despite Marinelli's praise for the man he calls the Golden Cock, Hayden has to be vulnerable. Dallas has a bunch of defensive linemen coming into camp. He also has no real dead money impact. If someone else like Ken Bishop can provide the same value on running downs and some additional penetration when the quarterback is throwing the ball, he may just push Hayden out of a job.
Bishop > Hayden

I just cringe seeing Hayden on the field. #timetomoveon

Like it or not, Witten isn't retiring. Escobar isn't going anywhere. And Hanna is on the last year of his rookie contract.

They drafted Swaim as a blocking TE so if he shows to be a better blocker than Hanna, Hanna is probably gone. If not, they'll probably put Swaim on the PS, and let Hanna go next year.

Hanna is the better blocker. Not sure what your deal is

IMO, Bishop is both stronger and quicker than Hayden. Bishop just needs reps. He should be much further along this preseason than he was last year.

Marinelli's attachment to Hayden is odd. Hayden's best attribute is effort. He goes all out down after down. He does get out to the outside or back to LB depth on many plays that are away from him which is something a guy like Josh Brent probably could not have done and that appears to be very important to Marinelli. I think Ken Bishop can make those effort plays but also be much better in the traditional requirements of the 1tech DT of holding up to double-teams and getting pressure if not doubled.

Are you Hanna's brother or something?

You're taking a discussion about the 3rd TE way too seriously.

No he is my cousin. ***, we having a debate im telling you my opinion. Doesn't mean I am related to someone because I speak my thoughts

Escobar in danger of getting cut? Yeah right:laugh:

He's definitely not going to get cut but the fact he's on that list shows he's been another wasted #2 pick on a TE. If it were me I would be looking to trade him.

I never thought about Claiborne being put on PUP list, but he and his agent would probably fight that. I doubt if we cut him, as despite Jones we are still thin at CB and as a 4th CB I would have more confidence in him than a starting CB.

Most seem to think Jones would be better at safety so the potential for him moving at some point during the season could save Claiborne. I've been saying ever since he was injured last year it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up being released. He's been battling the entire offseason just trying to put all the weight he lost back on. I just can't see how he's going to be able to make an impact with the weight and strength loss and continuing to rehab a serious injury. It's going to come down to how he looks during camp and preseason.

very valid points. we all have been looking for that FS in the molds of those in seattle and we know understand their impact. so Jones at FS is not a bad idea.....having that kind of flexibility is nice to have.
