Top 5 questionable free agents

I already picked the best deals of the free-agency period, now it's time for the bad deals.
Here are five I question:

1. Leonard Davis to Dallas – This is the worst move of the offseason thus far. Signing the underachieving and underwhelming tackle to a 7-year, $49.6 million deal, with $18.75 million in guaranteed money, is beyond comprehension.

Honestly – did he do anything in Arizona? And when new coaches, offensive line guru Russ Grimm and head coach Ken Whisenhunt, study the film and don't make you an offer to stay in Arizona, where they are desperate to talent upgrades on the line, well, that tells you everything about everything.

2. Ashley Lelie to San Francisco – Go ask a Bronco player or coach about Lelie off the record. Or a Falcon. The expression 'tissue paper soft' might be used.

3. Drew Bennett to St. Louis – $4.5 million a year for a No. 3 receiver with a chronic case of the yips? I thought the money could be better spent by the Rams.

4. Dennis Northcutt to Jacksonville – I was looking for something a bit more special at the receiver position from the Jaguars. Northcutt, who was an up and down Brown, won't stand out in that receiver core and help Byron Leftwich.

5. Ovie Mughelli to Atlanta – Did the Falcons really pay all that money for a fullback??

He doesn't know that. He doesn't know what they offered, and they did make him an offer. If he had to decide, what does common sense tell us about the similarities in the offers? He's passing one thing off as speculation and the other definitive, but he doesn't offer anything definitive on either one.

Common sense suggests that the Commanders were offering similar money to us. Other guards also got similar deals. The market is thus set.

:laugh2:

Neither do you. You're speculating when you say that they were offering similar money.

Who is to say Clayton (nerd that he is) doesn't have a source in the Commanders front office? Why do you think Peter King loves Andy Reid? He feeds him information. Happens all the time around the league.

Players rarely are going to come out and say "Oh, I came to Dallas because they offered way more money". Their agents teach them to say garbage like "It was the best fit for me. I love the community" etc. It leads to local money. In addition, agents have to create the perception that their guy is in demand. How else would they attract future clients?

Sure, I agree that at first glance it appears that the contract falls in line with others around the league, but Dallas could have overpaid as well. There is certainly information floating around that indicates that could very well be the case. And it has come from multiple locations.

Bottom line is that we'll never know, but I personally think the team overpaid no matter what the rest of the market is doing.

Because that is not logical. If they weren't prepared to offer a similar amount, there is no decision to make. Even if he's correct on that, he also speculates that the Giants would have payed. Either way, the professor's piece suggests that the market is set where Dallas payed out. Just because the numbers are astronomical, and "you" don't think he is worth it, doesn't mean the contract isn't market value.

Arizona's really been making a free agent splash, haven't they? We know how much the Bidwell's like to spend money.

Grimm and Wisenhunt have little to do with it. Bidwell has a ton to do with it.
They will NEVER pay an OL the kind of money being slung around out there. He's already taken 35million plus and I bet that just burns the Bidwells every second of every day.
