I don't think he will get hired to be a head coach any time soon or perhaps even ever again.

He did not produce in Chicago save for a couple of seasons and absolutely not in Tampa. Good man, good leader, but he misses the small things.

As for the Marinelli thing, he is under contract and won't be going anywhere unless he too is fired.

Agree with you. Was living in Chicago 4 years when he was at his tail end and became friends with many lifelong Bears fans. They love the guy...still...but admit he had issues adjusting. Defense is a little dated now. He did make the SB with a crap QB but he also only made the playoffs 3 times and was horrible with staff decisions...got rid of Rivera, brought in Martz, etc.

He did produce in Chicago, his problem has been and still is, the Mike Singletary syndrome, all he wants to do is run the ball. He can not develop QBs, and sticks to vets too much.

In Tampa they are saying that he was fired because the offense performed well, particularly for having a rookie QB. And that their O-Coordinator, Dirk Koetter, had become a hot commodity for a HC position as Tennessee and Philly were interested. The Glazers feel it's important for a young QB to stay in the same system and would rather make Koetter the new HC than lose him.

Kinda sucks to lose your job because you hired too good of a coordinator.

I think Lovie is an idiot, who has an outdated D(Tampa-2 which Dallas runs a variation of), who wants to run the ball, can not draft(yes he made picks), can not develop young players, allowed his team to not embrace Cedric Benson, grudges against coaches who did not like his "system"(Rivera) I could keep going....

But, look at his last 3yrs with the Bears: 11-5, 8-8, and I believe a missed playoff birth at 10-6 with him getting fired. His D, only works with certain types of players. A coach who gets fired after going 10-6, comeon!

As I said, many I know love him and still lament he is not the coach in Chicago...but as you and I have both pointed out, he does a lot of idiotic stuff. He is the definition of a players coach who had good seasons. I think, specifically in Chicago, that his demeanor and ability not to bring in the right people around him were his downfall. He reminds me of Wade a little in how he just sort of looked blank and maybe a little confused during games.

Several others we could consider to replace Henderson. Mikal Smith used to intern in Dallas also.

Basically what it is. They expected the offense to struggle and the defense to hold it down. They didn't expect Winston and the offense to be better than their defense. This is a good move for TB, but it won't make any sense if they decide to hire a HC from the outside or they give Koetter two years.

Are we talking about Lovie or Garrett?:)

From the reports in Tampa, it appears that Koetter being hired is a foregone conclusion.

Seems like this is because they don't want to lose their OC Koetter.

I guess I can understand that, assuming they're doing this because they believe Koetter is going to be a good HC and they're not just keeping him because of Winston.

If Winston is the star, and franchise QB, they believe he is supposed to be he should be able to deal with changing of systems. You don't just keep the OC as your HC to avoid that unless you really believe he's an upgrade at HC.

I don't know if he will be or not but I don't think Smith is a bad HC.

What the heck is going on? All these coaching vacancies and the only Cowboy coach to get an interview is the defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson with the Browns.

Why don't these other teams realize the great head coaching prospects available on the Cowboys' staff right now? Why isn't Linehan getting any interviews? Why isn't Marinelli getting any interviews?

Come on Jerry, let the NFL world know that you are willing to part with any member of the vaunted Cowboy coaching staff. And that includes Garrett! Even if Jerry allowed Garrett to interview, no team would be interested. How horrible is that!

Truth be told, if this were Garret's contract year, he also would not even sniff an interview. Garrett got so lucky hitting the jackpot last year. $30M lottery for him.

The 49ers ate $14M to get rid of Tomsula. The Bucs ate $10M to get rid of Smith. The Eagles ate probably around $12M to get rid of Kelly. What's up with outrageous, guaranteed NFL coaching salaries? Ridiculous.

Kind of a shock honestly... I thought they played hard for him this year.

Yep, with that ringing endorsement he would have a lifetime job with the Cowboys where 'the players haven't quit on him and play hard for him' is the only criteria

Oh wait,...... Does Lovie give 'a great press conference' because that is a make or break if the HC expects fans on CZ to support him

Without exactly knowing the situation with our staff and what they have been told by management it's hard to draw any concrete conclusions.
