I don’t think what the guy’s being paid makes as much of a difference as what you’re saying. Plenty of players have taken pay it’s to stay with their current team. That’s essentially what this would be.The reason that he’s can’t necessarily do that here is because of the relationships. In locker room culture it’s hard to go from high paid leader to vet minimum backup.
Similar to the Dez and Witten situations. They both could serve roles, but it’s probably best if they did so with another team. You see this all across the league with aging players who once played huge roles on their teams, doesn’t make sense within the locker room hierarchy and structure to have a former leader and top guy try to just be a ho-hum lunchpale guy.
