If you have 10's of millions in the bank and get millions in annual investment income . . . would you play NFL RB for $1m a season?

This isn't a pride or ego thing. Its a "do you want to walk at age 40" thing. If I was in that position, I don't think I would do it. Zeke has charisma and a following. Shouldn't be hard to turn that into an analyst type role somewhere.

He might be getting offers and just rebuffing them because he figures they just aren't worth it.
Possibly. But a lot of players are driven to play despite the millions they've made. I don't know if Elliott is one of those or is OK with calling it quits at this point. I do think, though, he's one of those who still thinks he's got some good years left. I mean, Emmitt did when he left for the Cardinals. Learned he didn't and retired. It's hard to accept the reality that your body just can't do what it once did ... and that's probably true for all of us.

I'm not sure anyone here thinks he's a great back at this point. Maybe better than what we inexpensively picked up to replace him, but not great. Could be wrong about that, and hope to be wrong about that, but we'll see.
Well its obvious now he sucks. Some saw it 3 years ago and some didnt figure it out until just this year.

Yeah. Personally I think Zeke is at that point.

I just am trying to point out the fact that just because he hasn't signed, it doesn't mean he hasn't got offers. He just hasn't got offers he liked.

The fact that he’s been available and unsigned for months says it all. Heck, I like him and would take him back on the cheap and I can clearly see that.

Yeah. I don’t know how the guy continues to get work.

If he’s going to be a cheap backup, I’d just as soon see him do it here. In an offense he knows, with coaches, ownership, and teammates that he knows as well.

I think he’s a better option than Malik Davis, Ronald Jones, or the other low end backs Dallas has.

Just my opinion.
Nah, rather not even use up a roster spot on him. Need to move on. This Zeke ain't better than the other backups.

Its says point blank spete talked to Zeke and Zeke needs to get it out of his head hes worth 12 million. Thats pretty straight forward.
It says point blank what Pete said, not what Zeke thought.

Zeke knew he wasn't going to get $12 million - the Cowboys released him and his agent has been able to talk to other teams for almost 2 months.

The thing he may have actually needed from Peete's comments is that he is probably only a $1 million RB now. That's likely what hasn't sunk in

Zeke got his money. No one is interested in starting him. It shows a whole lot about what league minds actually thought of him the last couple years. They see a good blocker and a power runner, not a game breaker and not a true difference maker.

His market is established. The only way he gets more is to go to a perfect fit and ball out.
The Cowboys didn’t screw over Elliott. He is the 2nd highest paid RB in NFL history, trailing only Adrian Peterson in career earnings. And that is before he takes a single snap for another team in the NFL. Emmitt is my favorite all-time Cowboy player. But he’s wrong about the Cowboys doing Elliott bad.

I believe it's more than likely that Zeke has been spoiled by making his elite payroll allowances of the past.

He'll either take an agreeable adjustment or not. It appears his skills have diminished to a far lesser extent.

The wise thing if he isn't broke and wants to play, might be to wait and see if the Cowboys need him and could use him at some point.

I never insinuated they did? Zeke did more than well. If anything he put their feet to the fire.

The Cowboys staff was kind enough to keep paying Elliott about three years beyond when his elite status was legitimately awarded. They had a special feeling for him that went beyond the usual tendencies of pay. Once they concluded that he was being unnecessarily overpaid, Zeke refused to accept what they felt he was truly worth. I felt he was lucky to be allowed what he was paid for so long. I'm hoping he arrives at a realization of that.

When you are a fat turd that used to get 15 mil per year chances are you would rather sit on the couch than play for 1 million. Dude made his money he does not care about legacy. He is washed lets move on.

I understand Pete has more credibility than anyone in here, but we all said the same thing.

Fact is, 21 got paid $90 million and he did a great job for Dallas. Go enjoy your life 21.
Seriously?
I know he got bank, but I didn't know in six years he got that much bank.:omg:

Hope he invested wisely.

That's bs. It's not about legacy, his body is done. He starts off strong each year and gets beat up. His body doesn't bounce back and it slows him. He has never avoided contact and never chose to rest over playing injured.

The hold out put a bad taste in everyone mouth, but he grew into a dedicated Cowboy and gave his all.

I hope he retires and enjoys his wealth and health. No need to be more bruised and battered. No need to be disrespected by couch scrubs either.
