Buehler Facemask

He should have just kicked it out of bounds and taken the penalty.

I said that while watching the game, I agree.

The ball would have been placed 30 yards from the point of the kick, meaning the Titans would have started at the Cowboys 45 yard line. You have to try for better field position than that.

When I saw it I didn't think it was a facemask at all. Maybe if they still had the 5 yard variety, but it definitely didn't warrant 15.

Let's address a few things:

1. 5 yard varieties are now 15 yards. If you barely graze it or grab and let go, doesn't matter ITS ALL 15 yards now.

2. This was not a former 5 yard variety anyway. On the replay when Buehler makes contact with him, you can clearly see the Titan's players head suddenly jerk downwards and to the left as if he just suddenly started looking at the ground while he was running and then before he gets taken to the ground it snaps back upward. This is 15 yards regardless, but would be 15 yards under the old rules too since he grabbed and pulled the head in a different direction.

3. The Titans player did not grab Buehler's facemask. He used a stiff arm where you are ALLOWED to push against the opposing players facemask as long as you don't grab it. The Titan's player didn't grab but did push against it.

Come on guys, I wish we didn't commit stupid penalties but these were all pretty easy to see on replay.

Here's the replay:

Focus on JUST the Titan's players head starting at the 2:44 mark. Then rewatch focusing just on the Titan's players hand on Buehler's helmet. Open palm with no grab.

You have better eyes than I do. I didn't see it.

Watch JUST the head of the Titan's player. His heads up and then it suddenly jerks down and to the left then snaps back up. If you don't see it, then you're just in denial of the extent of how dumb we are all the time with penalties.

No. Maybe the head jerked and I didn't notice it, but if you grab and release a facemask, it's not a penalty.

Right you are. But the jerking downwards of his head is easily noticable.

I saw it. It was just to the left of the Loch Ness Monster.

Is that what that was? That was Nessie? OK, now I understand.

It has to be the first time I've ever seen a facemask called on a frigging KICKER!!!

Also, the titans tackles were slapping Ware's facemask ALL DAY and NO CALL. Yet Bowen grazes a Guy's mask and it's a personal foul.

the titans get away with it, because fisher is the head chairman on rules committee

the refs were intimidated by fisher

thats also why the titans are a dirty team, fisher is head person on rules committee looking at fouls, rules and penalties by players and refs

so, refs are intimidated by jeff fisher and titans, and they get away with murder

You've got to be kidding, right? Jeez, ANOTHER conspiracy theorist.

Besides, exactly what power do you think the rules committee has over the officials that would make them cringe. The rules committee's primary job is looking at what rules need to be changed or added, not hiring and firing officials.

That is not correct. What was a 5-yard facemask penalty is now legal.

You guys are really through the looking glass here. Sour grapes. I've complained about the refs a lot, but its when they don't call obvious penalties on the opponent.

As much as I hate it, 95% of the time, the Cowboys do exactly what they're penalized for doing. This is something that pre-dated Wade, but it has gotten worse. I'd be surprised if we didn't lead the league in penalties since 2008.

And this year we don't even have a problem with Flozell starts like we used to. We're inventing new ways to shoot ourselves in the foot. Dumb players make dumb mistakes. Dumb coaches let dumb players keep making the mistakes. Dumb GMs... You get the picture.

Buehler did a postgame interview with Sham & Babe. He said that he grabbed it accidentally, then his hand hung up in it.

Thanks goodness he ran that guy down and stopped him! Nobody else did. Doesn't Buehler have more tackles on ST than any other player?

Well, he takes alot of blame on his field goals...but I don't think there is another kicker that will stick it in there...if he would not have made that play, it could have been a TD.

It's all a learning process. I hope.

If the offense would not stop relying on him to kick FG's...then that is no problem.

It is not that the Cowboys don't committ the penalties they get called for, it is the fact that they get called for every single little thing while the refs let the other team get away with the same things with no call.

There was no replay on the nationally televised game. I hate CBS. It is by far the worst football shown anywhere.

Having said this, I did TIVO the game and rewatched that play several times. I saw no face mask on that play. There is a second where the play is not visable but unless it happened in that split second, there was no face mask.
Ain't that the truth!? I couldn't believe they kept using that piss poor ground-level-from-the-opposite-end camera angle on almost every kickoff. That camera work was horrible. I couldn't tell if there were any lanes for the returner or even where the ball got returned to.

Absolutely correct, as usual.
