honestly a Head Coach is worthless with out a good QB. if you say match up 1 QB and 1 HC which would it be. i'd go with Little Bill and all the Cowboys QBs. we have historically had good QB play over the years with a Strong Head coach in bill Bellicheet you would have 12 or more super bowls over several decades

but OUR SUPREME COMMANDER will not abide such a coach

Of that list I would take Andy Reid who has quietly garnered multiple championship and Super Bowl appearances with two different teams as head coach.

Tom Landry could not have adjusted to free agency and today's players IMO. Hell, Jimmy Johnson could handle free agency as the Dolphins' head coach.

No question, he was a legend during his time, as was Chuck Nole but control ( no free agency) and discipline were critical to their success. In fact, I thought I heard or read that most of Landry's players hated him but had NO WAY out.

Tom Landry would have THRIVED on free agency. Tex Schram and Gil Brandt would have absolutely mastered it.

They had absolutely no qualms about getting rid of a player with contract "demands". Players and their agents tried to play games with them and they were sent packing. Then they were replaced without a ripple.

Duane Thomas, Todd Christiensen, Pat Toomay......with the exceptions of maybe Roger Staubach and Bob Lilly, no one was considered indispensable.

You heard that Landry was hated? He was at first.

There is a quiet secret when it comes to true leadership. Leaders are usually disliked and even resented by those they lead.

Why is that? A true leader forces you to give more than what you were first willing to give. However, that difference is what leads to winning.

And the Cowboys won. Listen to those players now. Even Duane Thomas and Hollywood Henderson claim they now see Tom Landry as a "father figure".

That is what winning does. That is what Tom Landry did.

They called him Coach Sliderule and Plasticman (by the way). They now call him a legend.

Wasn't around for the Landry days/prime.
Did see Reid/Bill B.

To me, Reid is a great coach, but Bill B in his prime knew how to create a defense that could change year to year. Trade away Seymour, not miss a beat. Teddy retires, doesn't miss a beat. Chris Jones traded, doesn't miss a beat.
Whether through luck and or Tom Brady, they always could be good enough on offense with no name small receivers, or dominate the league with a deadly(pun intended) 2 TE attack.

While Tom became a superstar by 2008-2010 for sure, the 2000's early teams he wasn't that GOAT and the defense was a big part of their wins.
