In this exercise I used multiple draft sites to make my mock. I focused on building the trenches as that's the way you win championships.

Free Agency.

We have signed 7 guys already but with 2 major holes left we look to shore those spots up. It's later in free agency so shouldn't cost too much.

Tre Boston safety. Excels in coverage, missed some tackles but with upgraded front 7 won't be a big problem.

Navarro Bowman MLB. Losing Hitchens created a need in the middle. Add that Lee has struggled with injuries and Jaylon still working his way back we bring in a tackling machine. Would instantly improve our LB corps.

Draft.

1. Vita Vea DT. Some have him gone top 12 but some have Vea available at 19. It's an easy decision, Vea gives us a big body 1 tech but has pass rush ability.

TRADE. (Tyrone Crawford, Cole Beasley and 6th round.... Possibly add a future conditional pick just to trade up a few spots)

2. Will Hernandez OG. A few mocks have Hernandez going in the 2nd round. Dallas is able to be patient and only has to move up a few spots to solidify the OL. Hernandez will plug in day 1 at LG while letting Collins stay at RT and giving us a great swing tackle in Fleming...... No more Green debacle.

3. M.J Stewart CB/FS. With Scandrick gone and Jones moving to corner we still need a young secondary piece. Stewart is great in coverage especially tight ends. Wouldn't need to start right away with our corners plus getting Boston but would still be able to contribute and develop into a starter.

4. Tyrell Crosby OT. It's possible he isn't available here but a few mocks have him in the 4th. Has future LT starter traits in case Smith isn't healthy. Gives us more depth on the OL so we never have a Green and Bell debacle again.

4. Josey Jewel LB. Bowman is 30 and will be a short term bridge. While some dislike Jewel he is very good tackling. Would give us depth in the middle and a guy that can develop into a starter.

5. Ogbonnia Okoronkwo DE. With Lawrence on the franchise tag, Tapper staying hurt, Gregory waiting on reinstatement, Crawford gone and Ealy in a short term deal we add a talented pass rusher here. Needs a ton of development but has some pass rush moves already. Would be a nice rotational piece to our suddenly strong DL.

6. Shaquem Griffin LB. Only reason I have Griffin lasting to the 6th is his handicap. I think he will be a very good player and could possibly go in the 4th. At this point he is too good of a value to pass up and if he can show the ability to tackle running backs, TEs and receivers he will be a steal. Front 7 is looking strong and has depth now.

6. Bo Scarborough RB. Morris doesn't have a contract with us and we need another running back besides Zeke and Rod. Bo would be a good back to add and makes our strength even stronger.

7. Marquez Valdes-Scantling WR. Had no idea he would last here as he is a big body receiver with speed. Has some good traits but needs developing. He is everything you want physically and will be matchup problems if our coaching staff could get creative sometimes.

TRADE (next years 6th)

7. Jordan Thomas TE. Needs work in the blocking area but can contribute immediately as a receiver. With Witten on the team TEs just aren't going to get much time or reps. Thomas will also protect us if Rico can't go again this season.

A few possible UDFA

Austin Proehl WR
Robert Foster WR
Kenny Hill QB
Andre Smith LB

In closing some of these guys will fall and rise but this exercise they were available in those spots. I think we have improved the roster from top to bottom. Defense should be improved and so will the offense.

Good post & you put some research/ effort into it.
1) where is this Navarro Bowman? Have we already signed him?
2) I'm thinking that one handed LB Griffin ( like you) won't be there in the 6th
3) we should take a LB much sooner than the #2 pick of the 4th round( if one better rated than yours is available)
4) if I've failed the mention OF drafting quality LINEBACKERS soon&often, please let it slide as my mind is rather preoccupied over this dismal predicament DALLAS is fixing to find itself in without assembling a competent LINEBACKER cadreo_O

You are correct LB is a huge need. In this mock Roquan and Edmunds were off the board at 19. Leighton is more close to a second round pick and Evans is somewhere in the 20s. Vea was the highest rated player so I took him. When Hernandez was at the top of the second was easy decision over 2nd round prospects. I didn't see much value in the 3rd and Stewart can contribute right away and be a future starter. In my opinion Jewel in the 4th is great value and will provide depth.

Had I not got Bowman in free agency then I would have made a trade up for Roquan or trade back for Evans.

Reports are Roquan is starting to fall so very possible he is available at 19

Stopped at the stupid trade of Crawford and Beasley
What's so stupid about it? You think they aren't tradable? Both have big contacts and we have a ton of depth at their position. It opens up cap room while getting a player in a position of need that will be a day 1 starter.

please explain the crawford/beasley trade further and who did we trade with

What would've been ' net gain' in trading back for Evans in terms of pick/placement? as there is a contingent of pretty savvy& respected forum members that are pretty high him him.

* this is something I don't research due simply because I'd be disappointed when my 'guys' went to hated foes

Scarborough, Griffin and Thomas will be long gone by the 6th round.

Also if Hernandez does fall into the 2nd round, doubt he will fall to 50.

Hence the trade up in the 2nd round.

I said before I started that I took rankings from different sites. Players rise and fall. I have only been rankings in the 7th for Jordan Thomas by the way. A ton of backs are ranked ahead of Bo sand Griffin could fall due to his handicap.

I would say Evans might be there in mid to late 20s. Could get a 3rd by trading back

Copy that on GRIFFIN gone B-4 the 6th,,,irv88 also implied (as much)

You've got a huge fan of this draft!

I would have zero issues with any haul resembling this one.

You nailed my own "Top 2 picks dream scenario" with Vea and Hernandez. I think if the Cowboys were fortunate enough to land Vea that they'd jump right on the phones to trade back up to get Hernandez.

In my opinion getting Vea and Hernandez would make this draft a success even if we have no picks left haha

Same here to be honest.

I'd consider it a "win" no matter what else they did after that.
Some consider our OL to be around the best in the league. Can you imagine having both DL and OL on another level.

Putting pressure on the QB causes turnovers. A great DL can help the rest of the DL. We start getting the ball back to the offense....... Wow

Protecting Dak longer will allow him to read the field better. Giving him time let's him set his feet and deliver an accurate pass. Last season at times he rushed his throws. Not only that receivers have time to get open and we haven't even released Zeke running through wide open holes yet.

Vea and Hernandez would take this team to another level and at this point are my 2 most wanted players.

As someone who has been slowly working on a 3 round nfl mock, Hernandez will not make it past the Giants in round 2. Just about everyone in the 2nd half of the 1st round has brought him in as a visit or workout ( i know this because i have been spent a good amount of time looking at other teams visitors lists) Gonna have to trade up to 33 to get ahead of the Giants or maybe even back into the first round. Pats seem to really like Hernandez as well.

I have a trade up. Perhaps not enough to get to 33 but that's the reason I said we could also offer a conditional pick next year

Yeah hate to lose Hernandez to Giants and see him perform well on that OL instead of the Cowboys who he wants to play it and looking like Cowboys OL lobbying him like hes their best friend or one of their brothers. But we do have defensive needs like another DT or LB. Hard to choose.

The more i think about it, the more i feel Hernandez is the pick at 19 unless one of the defensive studs fall to us in Vea, Ro Smith, Edmunds, and James.

Maybe we can have best of both worlds. Grab a defensive guy first then trade up for Hernandez. Or trade back get Hernandez but have an extra pick in the top 3 rounds to grab DT,LB or safety
