Bunting: Cowboys like Aldon Smith more than Robert Quinn

Interesting. Would that work with JJ Watt as well? Watching clips of both Watt and Smith, I see that they both play DT, DE, and OLB. Everyone's saying the Boys love Watt, and now Smith, so maybe that's the piece Ryan wants most for his defense.

It would IMO but I think Watt is a what you see is what you get prospect, which is not bad IMO. However, with Smith, your talking about a player who is not yet fully developed with a higher ceiling IMO. Smith was initially a Basketball Player. He didn't start playing Football till his Jr. year in H.S. I believe. Basically, he has 4 years of football experience under his belt and he's already at this level of development. He set the single season sack record at Missouri in his Freshman year. This guy has some athletic skills. Not only did he play basket ball but he also kick boxed. He has excellent feet. If he looks as if he is not smooth, I would guess that it's more about experience then about athletic ability.

I don't know, I'm probably a bad guy to listen to because I love this player.

He's pretty interesting.

This thread forced me to read up on him, watch him for the first time. I'd always dismissed him as a prospect just because he didn't seem like an option. He looks pretty damn good. He's ridiculously quick, great instincts, and strong

At the point of attack, he's very strong which is surprising because he is not thick. That's one of the first things I noticed. He also plays violently. He will mix it up with you.

Smoke screens this time of the year run rampant. I suspect the crap the BOYS put out to sources is to stimulate interest in teams trading up for their pick.

I see Watt as more of a full time DE than Smith.

I think there is something to this. I really like this player but I just have a hard time seeing us pick him over an OL. I've heard that the Skins, the Pats and the Chiefs are very interested in this player.

JJ Watt would only play along the DL, whereas Smith would play OLB and slide inside on passing downs, making the two an apples to oranges comparison, IMO.

Watt is versatile and would provide Ryan with flexibility, but Smith would be the edge rusher that Watt never could be, plus he could still slide inside on certain downs to provide an inside rush.

Well anything before the draft can be seen as a smokescreen. People here who want a OL will say this is a smokescreen. People who want a CB, OLB, DE, or whatever will see that whatever else is mentioned can be a smokescreen for their player, only believing news that supports their theory.

Right now, unless your in Jerry's head, noone knows what we will do. Sure we can have our theories based on whatever some reporter said, but really, we are just along for the ride and all we can do is wait and see.

If you think he is anything close to Demarcus Ware than you draft him.

An elite pass rusher on this team outside of Ware makes our entire defense better.

I really think the Cowboys are kicking the tires of all the players they think will be available at various points in the 1st round.

I have a hard time believing Dallas would take Aldon Smith at #9, but I do think they would consider him at say #14-15 or beyond, the same way they would with Castanzo or even Pouncey.

I like Aldon Smith, but I'm telling you, if Dallas doesn't get a stud on their offensive line fast, they are going to sink. The interior of the offensive line is ready to cave. How many first round OLBs are they going to take?

If it's Tyron VS Aldon, I'm taking Tyron. You better get ahead of the OT run, or you probably will not get one. Mark Colombo VS Anthony Spencer.. Hello...

Aldon Smith is a much better choice that J.J. Watt. I'll say that.

How many first rounders is Dallas going to draft on defense? It's always broken, too.

Ware is here.

Take Tyron Smith...

Romo is not going to last much longer playing behind this old and deteriorated offensive line. Plus, this team is going no where fast with this offensive line. History has proven that a glass ceiling exits, and the Cowboys' offensive line will never break that glass.

Tyron Smith is the superior offensive linemen in this draft, and he is a blue chip, cornerstone player. He's 20 years old, and he's one of the safest picks in the entire draft. Take him! You rarely get the opportunity to get a guy like Tyron Smith.

Ware is on the team.

If Dallas goes defense at 9, I'm about ready to hang it up.

^^^^ I agree w everything you are saying..I am ONLY cool w Aldon if we are almost 100% certain we will move up and snag one of the OTs in the bottom half of round 1

I don't entirely disagree with you here but I would say two things. One, if they trade down and pick up more picks, they could always trade back up to get a player later in the first round and two, the Cowboys don't pick OLs in the 1st round. This is not to say that they won't this time but it's been since 1981 (30 years ago) that they took Howard Richards in the 1st round.

I agree with that. If they could manage Carimi later in the first, along with Aldon, that would be a serious coup.

Carimi improves our OL 1000% from day 1. We could still go Rackley or Moffitt in round 3 and have a vastly better OL along with a deadly pass rush.

Safety and DE could be done in whatever form of free agency we end up with.

I wouldn't hesitate to take him later in the first. Trade back to 15-20 and take bpa.

I'm cool with Aldon either way but if we trade up for a OT that would be great.

The interesting thing about this is that Ryan uses 46 concepts in his 34. If you understand the 46, then you know that they use a guy that can move up and down the line to create match up problems. Interestingly enough, it might be Smith who is moved and not Spencer. Assuming this were the plan. Green Bay basically does this now with Clay Matthews.

This. Some were discussing Von Miller in this role but Smith is a much more likely candidate to be able to draft. And unless he gets real hot then Dallas can drop down and still get him. Then back up into the first for an OT. Just a thought assuming Dallas is really interested in spending their first pick on A Smith.

Edit: Sorry didn't see your later posts. Just goes to show you great minds think alike.

I'm really starting to like Aldon too..I just don't know what we would do if we miss out on all of the 1st tier OTs

aldon smith is like the 6th to 7th best DE in the draft. why in the world would we take him at 9? 19 maybe, but not 9.
