Bunting: Cowboys like Aldon Smith more than Robert Quinn

aldon smith is like the 6th to 7th best DE in the draft. why in the world would we take him at 9? 19 maybe, but not 9.

6th or 7th? Are you nuts? He's top 5 for sure..probably top 3

OK, so it's decided then. We're trading out of the 9th pick with the Rams. We get the Rams 14th overall and there 3rd round pick (78th Overall) and a 3rd round pick in the 2012 draft.

Rams move up to take A.J. Green or Julio Jones, whichever is on the board.

14 - Aldon Smith - DE/OLB Missouri

Cowboys trade back up into the 1st round with Tampa Bay. We trade our 2nd round pick and our 3rd round pick to Tampa Bay for Tampa's 1st round pick (20th overall)

20 - Gabe Carimi ROT Wisconsin

78 - Devon House CB New Mexico State

110 - John Moffett RG Wisconsin

143 - Alex Henery K/P Nebraska

176 - David Carter DE/DT UCLA

220 - Zane Taylor C/G Utah

252 - Byron Stingily OT/OG Louisville

UFA Signings

Blake Bollis QB NW Missouri St., Zach Pianalto TE/FB UNC, Anthoney Gray DT Southern Miss.

FA Mike Huff, Devain Joseph. Re-Sign Spears, Kosier and Sensy.

How easy was that?

aldon smith does not seem all that impressive to me, definitaly not at 9. The only DE i would take that high is Quinn. Maybe if we trade down to the teens would i take Aldon smith. Spencer is more athletic and tested better at the combine and had better college stats than Aldon smith.

But Aldon does compare to jason piere-paul of the giants but jason i think was 1 inch taller and wieghted alittle more.

Also the cowboys might see the potiental in Aldon. Aldon looks alittle slow in his highlight when he intercepted the ball and was running it back but he was coming off a broke leg he broke 3 wees ago and is playing:eek:

Can we petition for you to be the GM of the cowboys:D

one thing i like about aldon smith is he can play inside like justin tuck do for the giants....well he did in college...He dominated guards in pass situations just too quick. I would love for us to do something like that if we draft aldon.

ware....ratliff...aldon...spencer:eek:
only in high percentage passing situations.

I wouldnt take him at 9, but as someone else said if the scouts and coaches think he's similar to D Ware, then you take him and dont look back. If they decided they wanted him, ideally you'd move back a few spots and get him plus another fairly early pick.

I've been saying since the end of the season that OLB could be the #1 target on draft day IF the new coaches (in this case Garrett and Ryan) looked at Spoencer's film and decided they were never going to see him play consistently. He's also entering the last yr of his deal. OLB's are critical in the 3-4 and I'm guessing Ryan could easily see on tape what alot of us saw too, that our pass rush last yr outside of Ware was non existant.

That said, I still think Tyron Smith is the guy.

imagine that pass rush:D

I call smoke screen Aldon Smith over Quinn. I just dont see it.

the only thing i do not like is aldon smith doesnt look like he fly's off the edge. He looks like he looks to engage or try to juke the olinemen and then get to the QB. I never seen a speed rush but once. He looks like he do most of his damage lining up at DT in the nickle and abusing guards.

I think he might be a better prospect than the giants JPP though.

Personally, If I landed Aldon Smith (as a Cowboy) I would beef him up to 295lbs (he has the frame for it) and make him a 3-4 DE. He reminds me of Chris Canty, but faster.

Quinn will be a better pass rusher.

Yeah, me too. I think he'd be pretty special there too

I hope he gets in the weight room then because he would get pushed around in the run game as a 3-4 end. If you want a 3-4 end then Cameron Jordan is your man. He already has the size, experience, moves, speed and etc.

No need to draft aldon and then turn him into a big 3-4 DE (especially when he is not real good vs the run).

Im thinking we trade down with probably the rams and then select aldon smith (and pick up a extra 3rd rounder) at 14 if he is still there. And then trade back into the late round 1 (with our 2nd and 3rd round pick) and select either sherrod, carimi(sp?), or solder (hope not looks like a bust).

I just said if I landed Aldon. Most people are thinking of him as a 4-3 DE or OLB. (seems a little stiff to be a OLB IMO) I see him as a viable 3-4 DE if he got up to 295lbs.

In the right scenario I'd be OK with Aldon Smith. If Willie McGinnest can play and be effective in the 34, I see no reason a young Aldon Smith couldn't.

Ryan seemed happy with what he saw on film of Spencer. In his interview he said something like (paraphrasing): "If that is a down year for spencer, then I can't wait to see an up year."

Now, he might have just been talking nice about Anthony, but Ryan isn't one to lie just to save someone's feelings. I tend to believe him when he says Spencer is good.
Same here. One, Spencer has demonstrated that he can be good player, even dominant at times. Two, Rob didn't give Jenkins any of the same praise... Not even close.

And geez, Smith's arms in that pic do look freaky long.

I do agree that he doesn't look that quick or explosive in the vids I've seen, though. But that's probably to be expected in a bigger, strongside-type guy.

Very nice observation. Not only does Smith have the frame to get bigger, he also plays more physical than his high cut lanky frame suggests. The kid has some violent hands and I can only imagine how much stronger he would be with 20 more lbs of muscle.
