Butch Davis & Mayock - Bruce Carter

I'm only skeptical because I thought Carter was better suited to play OLB in a 4-3 defense

Thats what they said when the Steelers drafted Lawrence Timmons too.

I can't remember if it was Tom Cistcowski (sp?) or the Cowboys linebackers coach, but they interviewed one of the two yesterday and said Bruce Carter reminded them of a bigger Ernie Sims, during his days at Florida State.

Mayock just said on NFL Network that he talked to multiple GM's around the league and they all had Carter as top 15-20 prior to his injury. Butch Davis loves the kid, 1. great in the locker room, leader, 2. will be on the field for all 3 downs and lined up all over the field.

We need so much of 1 and 2 on a leadership and capability level for this defense words can't quantify it alone.

So if he can stay healthy and do this for this team as a full blown starter by next year. This was a substantial pick.

The guy is a genetic freak physically.

I didn't know much about him but previously and didn't know what to think because I wanted some one else with our 2nd rounder. But this could be a very good pick for us.

Especially if this is who Rob Ryan and our new LB's coach wanted.

Glad you watched some YouTube video of him.

He's only had surgery on his knee once I don't know where two came from. Great young man met him his freshmen year. Outstanding speed and playmaker great hands as well, very underrated part of his game.

As someone who has had two acl repairs. I can tell you it takes more than 6 months to be physically back and a year or more mentally

Just agree 100%. This the NFL folks. Ask Sean Lee if he was 100% last year....he'll look SO much better this year because he'll be 100%. Carter won't but it doesn't mean he can't play special teams at some point in the season: maybe by week 4. I would assume he'll be on the PUP list for quite some time. 6-9 months is......pushing it, it really is. Some of you need to have a friggin' reality check. THIS is the reason the kid was available, so it's a "risk, reward deal" as Jerrah would say. :D And yes, I DO like the pick....

Hopefully, Carter will be what Dallas wanted Kevin Burnett to be.

:laugh2:

Kevin Burnett IS what the Cowboys wanted him to be, just not with the Cowboys.

Ive seen Carter play 3 times live in Chapel Hill.

This is what I remember about every game.

"Bruce Carter on the tackle. Bruce Carter on the tackle. Bruce Carter on the tackle."

Over and Over again across the stadium loudspeaker.

Tackling machine I tell you. You can't go wrong with this pick. Carter is a solid day 2 pick. He can play anywhere.

Quinn was my personal NC favorite, but Carter is a stud LBer. He shows up on every game film because he finds and makes all the plays.

Outstanding athlete with ability to make plays all over the field • Started 43 career games • Blocked seven kicks in his career, including six punts • Ranked No. 1 in ESPN.com's 2010 workout warrior list • Set the record for a UNC linebacker with a power clean of 374 and a vertical jump of 40.5 inches • Also benches 440 pounds, squats 605 pounds and was clocked in the 40-yard dash at 4.39 • Entering the season, he ranked the No. 1 senior outside linebacker prospect in the 2011 NFL Draft by ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. • Had season-ending knee surgery to reconstruct his left ACL at the conclusion of the regular season.

Kris Jenkins had multiple injuries to the same knee.

He also played grossly overweight for most of his career and battled a drinking problem.

His problems went way beyond a generic ACL tear.

So is Nnamdi Asomugha. :laugh2:

And, as we both know, for two entirely different reasons.

Kevin Burnett had a very good year and will be a starter some where. Doubtfull San Diego lets him go, so I don't know what point you were making

I like the pick for the potential alone, but I think Kris Jenkins would disagree with you on the injury severity.

That doesn't mean that Carter will continue to have the problems that Jenkins has had, but it doesn't mean he won't either.

Just sayin..............

Jenkins is also a very big man. Those knees take pounding, he is in the 340 range. Rod Woodson came back from ACL in week 1 to play in the Super Bowl. It's a bad injury, but 15 years ago, this guy would have been out for 18 months. Now, they can be back in 8-12 months.

One good thing is, he is not being looked at as a starter, James is still the incumbent Mike backer. But if healthy, he can come in a play special teams and get spot duty like Sean Lee did last year. I know everyone compares this guy to Carp, but this kid can go sideline to sideline and gets there fast.
