I have been rewatching the game off the DVR...slo-moing lots of plays.

Butler does not look ready for the big stage. He can't shed a blocker, takes poor angles in pursuit, gets caught up in the wash and just seems lost out there in his assignments.

Maybe a light will come on with him since he's such a kid but as it stand our defense lacks depth at OLB and we need to attend to it in the offseason.

As it stands he has one positive attribute: explosion off the edge. But sadly that's about it.

I wonder why Wade doesn't use the Cowboy package with Butler, Ware and Spencer on obvious passing downs....trying to block Butler and Ware on one side and Spencer on the other would create all kinds of mismatches for an OLine....

I wish Brandon Williams stayed healthy. He would have been the guy instead of Butler. Butler at least shows potential for a 4th (I think) rounder.

Not sure why he would be ready...He is a rookie backup pass-rush specialist that isn't close to getting first team reps. Give the kid a chance to grow before calling him out.

It would be very nice if he can develop in to a third pass rush option.

Also the Saints don't give up a lot of sacks. Going into last night's game Brees had only been sacked 15 times in 13 games and only 4 in the last 6 games!

I wouldn't hold this game up as a sign of where Butler is in his progress.

You can say what you want to about Butler, he did a nice job last night. He was consistently applying pressure in the pocket. He stills has things to learn, but so does Ware and Spencer.

Wade needs to play him and Brandon Williams and others to give our LBs some rest throughout the game, especially Ware and Spencer, and I hope they notice when they watch the film how fresh Ware was at the end of the game when we needed our defense/pash rushers to close out the saints, Ware was fresh.

I have a friend that has been saying for weeks now that we needed to rotate our LBs so that they could be fresher at the ends of games.

Exactly. Saying he's not ready is like stating the obvious.

He does have 3 sacks in limited play though, and plenty of pressures, so I'd say he's doing something right if his job is to get to the QB.

As you indicated he is a rookie who is learning. He does a decent job at times of rushing the passer but is not ready for extended playing time as some have been calling for. I like him in spot duty for now and hopefully with an off season he can develop into more

Butler is just another case of a backup getting too much hype around here.

Yep because our fans can coach waaaaaay better then Wade and with the left over time in their schedule they can GM better then Jerry.

I could not agree more with this post.

Last week against the chargers, someone mentioned how their D coordinator rotates guys in when the d has bad plays. The fresh bodies were critical against us, especially on the goal line stand.

I understand Wades perspective, after all he is fighting for his job but he has to take the training wheels off at some point. I rather he do it sooner, live with the consequences of their mistakes with the added bonus of having Ware fresh in the fourth quarter.

Peter King claims he did not see Ware miss a single snap. Maybe the lack of practice reps rested his legs?

Kind of hard to see when he is double fisting burgers and chicken wings. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't even watch the games that he is paid to give his opinion on. He is such a disgusting slouch.

If I remember correctly Ware was not one the field for the first defensive play. I thought I saw him on the sidelines several times. I thought the coaches did a good job limiting his play to crucial down. Maybe I am completely wrong.

He's a freakin rookie, what did you expect, an all pro....it takes three years for these rookies to finally get it, Did you think, as many here thought that Jenkins was a bust of a pick last year... what do you think ths year, he' our best corner. Spencer has really come on, it took, that's right, three years.... Stop judging rookies, forget about rookies until the third year, this isn't college football.
