I realize they both play OLB but which one would you start over Barbie Carpenter? Williams will be back next year and Barbie will be long gone but this drives me nuts right now. It's attention to detail, the fine little details that we seem to over look. Get your best players on the field so we can have that much more of an edge. Rocket freaken science I know..:banghead:

Anyways I think Butler is a little faster than Octavien but I'm not sure. They both make plays when given the chance so it would be a huge upgrade either way....

If it would such a huge updrade....in terms of Mickey...then why aren't they playing now. :laugh1:

Ya because Spencer is reaking havoc on the the other side of Ware right?

Absolutly no reason why Butler shouldn't be getting the third down pass rush snaps.

Spencer had his chance. He sucks at rushing the passer.

Case closed.

Watch the games.

Okay now I know I'm right since you chimed in.

3-4 linebackers that dont get sacks are borderline worthless. Spencer isnt even coming close to being the pass rushing presence that Ellis was last year.

It's not like Ware isnt getting worn down either. He not super man. Get some young legs in there and make it happen. Not very hard to see that.

What makes anyone here think that either could play the nickel LB spot. Neither have practiced or played it. Maybe they could play it but there's no data to really have an opinion on it.

Next year Hodge will get the chance to compete for it. I suspect he'll be a year away after next TC. I look for Carpenter to get a one year deal to play the nickel role again next year. I hope he doesn't get more than a one year contract. But I don't think it's a lock for Barbie to either be here (he may get a deal elsewhere) or be beat out next year.

Butler has shown promise at the OLB spot so I doubt he gets moved esp with two players at the position next year.

Octavien doesn't have the cover capabilities to play that role.

People here should appreciate Carpenter. Not that he's been so good although he has played admirably. But because we'd not be the same D without him. If he goes down it hurts the team. I love Brooking but he can't cover like Carp does.

middle strong side backer if I remember correctly

MIKE

"Mickey" is in reference to Mickey Spagnola. He is fond of saying "if a guy is so good, why isn't he signed/playing/starting" or somesuch.

And back to the topic, I am glad to see Jason Williams active again. Cowboys need more speed in their LB corps, especially against the Chargers and Saints. And Williams (Jason) is as big (or bigger) than either Octavien/Butler, plus has the ability to play inside or outside.
