And it works out even better because Dallas gets to pay Gregory like a second-rounder and Jones, the high-character player, gets the first-round deal.

Yeah, I thought about that. You know you're going to get Jones' best no matter what, and Gregory will have to work to get a big second contract.

That simplifies it a little too much, I know... but in general, I mean.

Gregory is supposed to be a hard worker too but it might help keep him headed in the right direction. The best thing going for Gregory's future is that football is very important to him. I think that'll keep him straight.

I feel better about Gregory because he was picked at #60, but not because it's better "value", but because I think it will be a wake up call that the NFL is serious about not smoking weed.

I'm curious on Gregory. If it was strictly the pot issue, why wouldn't Shane Ray fall further? He got busted the week of the draft, so he was either going to smoke it or sell it. The latter being far more serious. Since he failed a test in college I would guess he is a smoker. I think Gregory fell because of perceived mental issues. We'll see. I do like how he comes from a military family and Rod is a military guy, they seem to have already started a little bond between them.

Gregory's statements about the issue were worrisome. He make it sound like he had a real problem with weed and really struggled to not smoke everyday. The fact that he knew he would be tested and still failed is a big problem.

I forget Ray's situation. IIRC he didn't fail a test but got caught with weed. It seems odd, but that does not seem as problematic as failing a test when the testing date was known.

I guess the mental issue is probably a factor also. No way to know how much.
