Eek, that sucks. Well I'm glad he at least got a 2nd nfl contract to make it comfortable financially for him and his family. It may not make him feel any less pain or disability but hopefully that stuff subsides over time.

Then get a job and work 40+ hours per week for 40 years making $25 an hour like millions and millions of Americans. I don’t know what to tell ya Byron. You chose your path.
Some are going to call you callous or insensitive but the reality is the financial trade was for his body and the performance it made on the field. He was compensated very well and will never have to work again if he does not so desire.

I'm sorry he has to live with chronic pain but it was his choice to make.

Why the sideswipe response? I didn't see any semblance of his asking for anything. He simply said good bye and gave the reasons why. Thankfully being a world class athlete earned him enough money that he's not going have to go work some crappy job the rest of his life. Since he always struck me as a very intelligent young man I am fairly confident that most of the money he earned in his career is still in his bank account. Dude will be fine. May he live long and prosper.

I took his post to be saying he's getting out BEFORE he has to live with chronic pain.. but maybe I am mis-interpreting. I won't pretend to know the nature of his injuries over these last 2-3 seasons. But I will look them up later.

THIS IS A MOUTHFULL RIGHT HERE, players are coming out telling how they really feel, and this is how it should be!!!!!!!!
I admire the guys honesty and courage for saying this. My kid was concussed 2 times in a row in Highschool playing ball, and the affects were brutal. Luckily he improved and recovered and chose the military as a career, which is where he is now. That was 2019. Best decision he/we ever made. The game is brutal as advertised. What Byron said hits home.

I can understand why many would be irritated with a multi millionaire athlete making comments like he did....hes not necessarily complaining but it does rub some the wrong way and it is also those peoples choice to feel irritated.

Honestly I think the fact that athletes have become so ridiculously overpaid means many have lost sympathy or compassion for them when they have issues like this.

I know I have less tolerance, again I'm appreciative he played for the cowboys and sorry he has to live with pain but can get why many don't want to hear it myself included.

I think the "No amount of chronic pain" for financial gain part rubs people the wrong way.

Everyone knows the risks of playing football. He made millions for his "sacrifice".

Average Joe gets same chronic injuries from working an assembly line or trade and doesn't have a fraction to show for it.
