There's no "living below your means" if you make below the federally accepted national minimum wage of $15 because about half the states still have $7.25 minimum wage or something lousy like that. Even if you live in a tenement. Not everybody has the option of living with their parents or a rich family member or gets to mooch off their spouse / romance partner. You shouldn't be forced to live in a car or in a tent or under a bridge.Anyone can be financially independent if you stay out of debt, live well below your means and save.
It may take time and discipline, but anyone can do it.
