There is only about 5 or 6 top tier players at most positions, that is why they are top tier.

A serviceable FS would be better than Wilcox, but I'm hesitant to put a corner who is merely bigger than average out there. Our run D is already looking suspect enough as it is, and I don't know if I like Jones or White being the last line of defense against a Lynch, Morris, or Murray.

IMO, you already have serviceable play at safety with Wilcox. You can win in this league with serviceable. What Wilcox has going for him is he's gotten better every year he's been in the league and we don't know his ceiling.

It could shape up that way, and if it does, that doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

I agree. I'm just not totally convinced that Jones or Patmon are in front of Claiborne. Atleast not to start the season. The Cowboys are going to give him every chance to start for them and i think White or Patmon are more suited to play slots.

I agree to that. It's Claiborne's starting job to lose and the old Claiborne would do that. Will the new Claiborne or is he still the same guy?

I feel that Jones will eventually end up ahead of Claiborne, though ... but if we get just one good season out of Claiborne before he moves on then this is certainly the season where we could use him stepping in for Scandrick and letting the other DBs play the roles intended for them.

Yeah none of the above would surprise me. I'm hoping it's a contract year and we get the best from Mo. People give him a hard time here and maybe deservedly so but if I'm not mistaken this is his first year since coming into the league where he hasn't been hurt. Maybe this is the time Mo.

I see no reason to consider either Jones or White at the safety position. How much has either even played the safety position?

Carr
Claiborne
Jones
White
Patmon

I believe Jones was a fairly non descript Saftey in college. He made his way to the draft radar playing CB.

What they did with him in camp gave me the impression he was never really considered at FS. They wantes to acclimate him to it incase they were forced to play him there as well as have the ability to move him around the defense IMO

I certainly hope so.

CB seems to be the best bet for Jones to serve where he probably fits in the best. The situation with O-Scan being what it is surely makes Byron's presence at CB even more essential. We could always draft a FS in the next draft, assuming we're so inclined. I'm betting he'll very likely come in handy at CB this year.

So what do you do if Carr and Mo play lights out this year?

You play them. When I stated that Jones fits in at CB the best, I meant as compared to playing at FS, not as compared to the other DBs that we have. I can surely see where I made it sound misleading, though. My bad.

Kind of off topic but our run D will look different with #50 out there along with Hitch..

Call me crazy but i'd like to see what Claiborne can do at safety on obvious passing downs.
