Core special teams player C.J. Goodwin announced his retirement from the NFL.

Goodwin, 36, was a free agent. He spent the past eight seasons with the Cowboys and played all 17 games last season as a special teams captain.

Goodwin told Rob Metzger of WTOV9 of his decision after his ninth annual PEGA Foundation All-Star Sports Camp.

Goodwin began his career as an undrafted free agent with the Steelers in 2014. He appeared in his first regular-season game in 2016 with the Falcons.

He appeared in 108 games with the Cowboys, playing 2,211 snaps on special teams, 62 on defense and one on offense.

Undrafted and made a nice career for himself. His pension should be AOK!
 
If there is any example of surviving in the nfl, multiple seasons, as a low radar players, and being able to retire comfortably without a big contract, its got to be this one hands down.

I wonder how much did he make over his time here? Can anyone grab the numbers?

I guess he had no choice.
Nobody offered him a contract

He made $11 million during his career, almost $10 million of that here in Dallas (according to overthecap).
 
He can tear down a mansion now, probably. We'd all be so lucky to carve out a lucrative niche like that guy did.

I never understood this

He was a special teams player, as long as he's better than the next guy, moving on to someone else doesn't exactly save much money

And with the new roster rules, he wasn't really causing us to cut someone more talented
