I honestly didn't even know this was going on. I also read from a few sites that there is some support for this amongst the BCS schools, with a possible new BCS game being played at Jerry-World. I posted a piece of the article and attached the link for the rest.....

Could UCF finally be elevated to "BCS status?"

If Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference have their way, that's exactly what would happen.

The commissioners of the two leagues, Britton Banowsky of C-USA and the Mountain West's Craig Thompson, met in Colorado last Thursday to discuss ways they could work together to achieve their common goal of inclusion at the big boy's table.

UCF has also been considered a candidate for future Big East expansion.
In its present form, the Bowl Championship Series awards automatic bids to the champions of just six conferences - the SEC, ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, PAC-10 and the Big East - while leaving out leagues such as C-USA, the MWC and the WAC.

The hurdles for a "non-BCS" team to qualify for a major bowl are much more stringent, though teams like Boise State, Utah, TCU and Hawaii have qualified in recent years.

Perhaps more importantly, there is a considerable perception gap with the current system if you're not in one of those six automatic qualifier conferences.

CBSSports.com was among the media outlets to report on last week's meeting between C-USA and the MWC and the play-in game possibility.

In an interview Tuesday afternoon with Pirate Radio 1250 AM in Greenville, N.C., East Carolina University Chancellor Steve Ballard says he was hopeful an agreement could be reached where one team from either league - decided via a play-in game of champions - would be guaranteed a BCS bid in future years.

I imagine they are just trying to get this done for future reasons. By that I mean I imagine they are going to wind up expanding their conference with some teams from smaller conferences just to try and stay on what many would consider the second level of conferences.

I don't have a problem if they get some BCS tie ins. My peresonal preference is that no conferences have automatic bids into the BCS but I guess that would lose money for the NCAA.

I agree BP. I think that the BCS should be made available to all D1 schools. If you are good enough to be in D1, then you should be eligible for a major bowl but your correct. It will never happen because of the money involved. You could have the best team in the country but if you can only pull 50 thousand fans, it's not going to happen.

I do believe the MWC is deserving of consideration thou. In the past few years, they have provided some very good teams. It's a shame this didn't happen before Utah left but Boise will benefit from this.

I would agree if it were an ideal world. I disagree because the reality is that some schools are not good enough to be in D1, but for reasons outside of football are in D1.

During the latest talks about splitting up the Big XII, a lot of politicians and higher ups pushed to make sure Baylor was not left out in the cold. Baylor really is not good enough to be in D1. They just have some powerful people backing them.

Agreed. Some schools would not be able to make the show regardless but, if they are in a D1 conference and they play themselves in, then they should be considered IMO.

Obviously, not going to happen but it would be nice to see schools who have had good seasons get an opportunity to play in a major bowl as opposed to being excluded before the season ever started.

Yep.

If you are not a great team then you will not place well within your conference and would not be considered for a big bowl anyway...Even if they did not do away with automatic BCS slots, with the trend of the conferences getting bigger only the top ones within the conference would get the bids and the lower ones would not.

It would weed out the lesser teams within the conference.

I just hated seeing some good teams in bad conferences having a very good year and not making a BCS bowl due to teams in bigger conferences getting automatic bids.

Even when some of those teams outside of the big conferences get a good bowl, it normally is not a bowl as high as it should have been.

And there is no way of knowing if a smaller team from a smaller conference can win against a big team in a big conference, until they give them a chance to play them.

Another problem is with a team like Boise State for example...some of the bigger schools don't want to give them a chance in regular season in order for them to build up their points to help them get a BCS bid to start with.

Too much money in College football and not enough about the actual game which always gets me upset when the NCAA comes out in a ruling against a team or player saying they need to respect the game when it is clear that the NCAA does not or they would not let money run it.

Playoff system is the only way to go and IMO they could make money off of it if they did it right but they won't...only level of football that they don't have a playoff system for but they always manage to make excuses for not starting one.

i agree over all but i disagree about baylor not being good enough to be in D1, you are just thinking about football, baylor always competes in track and basketball and other sports.

I think each sport can be treated separately. There are schools that play in different conferences for different sports. Why not different levels? There really needs to be a break up of Division 1A(FBS) into two tiers. I wouldn't drop Baylor into Division 1AA(FCS), but there really are at least two tiers in the top level of college football.

that was actually due to the BCS system, the schools knew how good boise was/is but they didnt want to play them because boise has been better than their rank. so there was no benefit for schools to play a tough team whos rank didnt reflect the team. if the higher ranked school were to lose to a low/unranked team their rank would plummet where as if they win the game didnt help that teams SOS. this will/has changed this year because teams like boise and TCU are actually ranked where they should be and boise i believe plays Oregon state and Virginia tech this year.
