I've always had the view that you shouldn't hit someone unless you're "man" enough to accept getting hit back. Otherwise, you should just walk away.

Everyone one has the right to defend themselves against violence.

For real, and children too. Those toddlers think they can get away with anything these days. If they want to act like men, let them get hit like 'em. Amiright?
Yes. Because an adult woman has the same cognitive abilities as a 2-3 year old child.

I don't agree with hitting women, either. But let's not be completely ridiculous.

Yes, a 300 lb man needs to knock a 120 lb woman unconscious to defend himself.

It really is a double standard, though I'm sure if Ronda Rousey decided to pummel me maybe she'd get charged.....

That said we simply don't know the circumstances. I find it unlikely Brantley felt threatened enough to retaliate with that type of force, but I really don't know. He likely just lost his temper after being struck and, unfortunately, one blow from this guy can cause significant damage. We just don't know the circumstances, but I would imagine NFL teams are getting to the bottom of it. If Brantley goes early 2nd then some team doesn't think he's troubled...possibly wrong place, wrong time. If he drops to the 4th/5th round range then we can likely assume the kid has a problem that could be recurring....

Exactly.

You're gonna tell me that a 6'2 300lbs full grown man with years of semi professional weight training has to defend himself by punching a woman in the face?!

He probably could have just walked into her to stop her 'attack'

His size advantage over this woman, unless she's Andre the GIANT, is probably equivalent to a regular sized person hitting a kid

That's nice. Still doesn't have anything to do with the cognitive differences between an adult and a toddler. Which was what we were talking about.

The post I quoted said "Toddlers THINK..." and also mentioned how they act, which kind of leads to what I replied with.

Yes, the original example was hyperbole. An overstatement.

Much like hitting a woman to defend yourself when you're 6'2 300lbs is an overstatement

I already said I didn't agree with that. So, again... I was ONLY talking about his comparison of an adult and a toddler, and they WAY he compared them. Size, strength, gender, ability, etc... None of that was mentioned.

But, I digress...

Kudos on your very convincing argument against something that was never mentioned, implied, or hinted at in either of our statements. I concede.

I agreed the statement was hyperbolic.

The hyperbole doesn't detract from the point that Brantley did something wrong. So I'm OK with it.

Sorry, but it's not just about cognitive differences unless we're talking about whether this woman was a practicing martial artist.
If we're talking about Ronda Rousey, who has the knowledge and experience to subdue men twice/thrice her size, you have a point.
If we're talking about an ordinary woman, the amount of force Brantley used is disproportionate to the woman's initial act.

Edit: I read the rest of your discussion with Gaede. So instead of addressing you, consider my post addressing the overarching point being made about why Brantley's response was an overreaction and why it wouldn't be appropriate for a toddler or a woman.
