The NFL will come up with a rule to nullfy Downs playing ability because he is just too good and they want lots of scoring since it is entertainment.

The NHL thought that more scoring equaled more ratings so they ridiculously decreased the size of the goaltender leg pads, gloves and blocker to promote scoring.

Didn't work. Goalies actually lowered against averages low and the ratings actually increased.

Rules committees need to stop looking at ratings.

Sports leagues now see their games as entertainment only and figure "excitement" is all they need.

The running idea now is the younger fan base has a lower attention span (blame social media if you subscribe to this theory) and that a low scoring game would make too many tune out.

Just look at the replays on NFL Network. The "best" games are always shootouts. They will show a game that's 35-35 in the fourth quarter, not one that's 13-10 in the fourth.

he might be ok with bigger slot guys like Lamb but I would not put him in the slot against quicker smaller shifty guys.

Agreed, and I wasn't super impressed with the man reps he did get. He was fine at it, but not "best safety since Ed Reed!" and all that... that reputation was built on torpedoing ball carriers in the box.

We'll see if Downs has got some game there that Patricia didn't show.

I've been to many guitar "clinics" in my day.The musician displays incredible prowess, top professional skills...and then attempts to help others get better.

Agreed, and I wasn't super impressed with the man reps he did get. He was fine at it, but not "best safety since Ed Reed!" and all that... that reputation was built on torpedoing ball carriers in the box.

I'm also not really sold that he's performing particularly well at man in camp.

He gets some highlights sure but a) it's a controlled environment and b) we don't see the reps he's losing. A corner is bad if he's getting beat 3/4 of the time lol.

I guess that's true for all DBs but I'm still pretty skeptical that Downs is going to be able to come in and play slot corner. It's a significant schematic advantage if he can, but there's little to project it.

he might be getting overhyped, sure. But he's a huge upgrade back there. Give him a chance. If we finally manage some pressure up front, downs willbe fine.
