Not sure what you're asking for. Not sure showing you ANYTHING before real NFL games will convince you of anything. You"ve dug in HARD. "sticky man coverage from the slot"? IS that a real play?

Here's a short "highlight" reel.

1st play - man
2nd play - blitz
3rd play looks like zone but he comes at his man right quick
4th play Not sure if that's the slot but he's pretty "sticky" there.

This is true. Downs is a potential elite level player but he’s not the elite cover guy we are trying to make him into. His biggest asset is versatility and ability to play downhill.

Yes he will get lined up in the slot at times, but he won’t function as a traditional slot CB. At his size he likely struggles against better receiving TEs in man coverage and I’m skeptical he can carry receivers deep. Outside of that I don’t have a ton of concerns about downs, but he’s certainly more of a good coverage guy as a safety…. Or so much by corner standards.

This is exactly 0 plays of him playing man coverage from the slot. You're proving my point lol.

I'm not questioning whether or not he is a great football player. What I'm saying is that they are using him in man coverage from the slot on guys like CD and it's not something he's ever done before, so I'm skeptical that it's going to translate to the NFL or be how they actually use hijm. He simply hasn't done it.

I mean I like Downs as much as anyone ....... I think he was the best defensive player in the draft.

But Offensive Vets should not be getting beat by him every play.

I'm NOT convinced ohio state NEVER put him in man slot. But YOU claim it so YOU prove it. And for the sake of conversation...let's say tOSU NEVER did. Maybe because they didn't have to, they had strong players everywhere. ...and you saying just because he hasn't means he can't or will have trouble?

The reel I showed is short but includes several different aspects. Even the announcers are like what is going on here. "Swiss army knife" "NFL ready.

For now we'll just civilly disagree. I watched him play ALL OVER the field at Ohio State. HE can cover man in the slot. Maybe even the dreaded "sticky".

I didn't say they never put him in the slot.

They never really had him play man coverage from the slot on WRs.

Caleb Downs is no ordinary rookie. He's a special breed that deserves all the credit he gets! Believe it or not. I'm betting you'll be on his side as a fan before all is said and done.
