The play calling does have one extra step though.
It goes Callahan to Wilson to Romo.
Has to add a few seconds, IMO.

It still went fine. We didn't see a single delay of game penalty in week 1 (but that's week 1). It's still a smoother flow of communication because if something quesitonable happens, Garrett is free to yell and gripe at refs or players all he wants, it doesn't interrupt the playcalling at all. I think that's the thing about this setup that may work best

what game did you watch? Maybe less than the past but I wouldn't say very few. I'd actually go to the other end and say a slight improvement but still happening too often which makes me think that it is a romo thing and he is taking the whole time to make sure he is seeing the D the way he thinks he is seeing the D.

Same game than you did bro. And yes I would still use the term since it was a RELATIVE statement compared to our past performance. I mean really. Think about it. Romo was deliberate and took his time to check plays and had literally 10-14 seconds to go through his reads and processes. You compare that to recent years past?! How many screwed up snaps? How many times is Romo frantically calling for the snap in shotgun because the clock is approaching zero? How many unnecessary burned timeouts?! The game I SAW was freakin night and day in comparison to the BS we've seen in playclock management. I will take what we saw in game one every time! Compared to what we've experience countless times in the recent past - yes - VERY FEW. And it will only improve.

What I will agree with is you're spot on that it is a Romo issue. It is very clear from post game comments that he changed out of a high % of running plays called by BC. BC mentioned it along with Jerry. And they essentially put the lack of balance on Romo audibles. Not sure if it is about him reading the D properly and getting the mike and blitzers called out OR if it is just one if those pathologies in his personality. I do feel it contributes a great deal to our pre-snap penalty issues which drive me bonkers. All of his pre-snap audibilizng appears to contribute to the jumpiness of the OL as well as Witten to some degree. I'd like to see him keep the up tempo style all the way through the snap and not get so cute with his counters and re-counters.
