My Shot: Fall on you knees and bow to the Paper Champions! Dallas has the most improved Defense in the NFL....on paper.

I can prove my point. You can't.

You can't prove your point by making the All-Pros in the best defenses secondaries disappear. Or explain why NE takes a DB high, or signs a top FA just about every year.

You probably still think we run a Tampa 2.

Besides, most members that read here often know gmoney112 > hardline. Sad!

It's basically going to be an average of ones that really matter imo

Pts/drive
TOs/drive
Passer rating
Red zone scoring %
NYPA
# of "big" plays given up

I'm going to track a lot of stuff. i'm a developer (apps), been laying out some groundwork for a cool little site/web app that will track some of the nifty stats I like, and just organize them to be Dallas specific.

There's a lot of good info out there, it's just spreadsheets though, looks like crap, and is a pain to consolidate all the sources. I'ma try and change that.
Links when you're ready. I don't care about pretty interfaces, data is king.

C'mon folks, top 10 defense? We can do better than that, we were 14th last season, moving up just 4 spots is going to pacify your want for this defense's improvement? Not mine, I think we could have a top 5 defense if the hype is correct. It's hard for me to pick just one draftee as THE one but Lewis is certainly as good as any. I can't wait to see this young man show cowboyszone how truly good he is. Excellent pick!

I think they are just taking into account that the D will be alot younger this year so there could be some growing pains, cause most of our investments in the D are very young.

That said, with the youth it should get better as the year goes along and we are lucky some of our tougher matchups are later in the season.

And you think the secondary isn't helped with a pass rush.
You won't find anyone or at least anyone on this forum that will agree with you that knows football. I played the game. still let's see a show of hands of those that agree with you over me.

There are many more examples of a top pass rush making mediocre to just good secondaries look really good then there are of top secondaries making a poor pass rush look better than it was.

Now I'd be interested in this. I'm an analytics consultant/data analyst and work with R, SAS, Python, Tableau everyday. I've been wanting to dabble with football data

It's a symbiosis of the two. You can have a great front and DBs that can't cover and you end up being Carolina (3rd in QB hurries; 2nd in sacks; 29th in pass yards against) or you can have great DBs and a front that can't get pressure like Oakland (25th in hurries; 31st in sacks; 24th in pass yards against).

It's the teams that have both units above average that are successful (e.g. Denver - 6th in hurries; 3rd in sacks; 1st in pass yards against)
