Calling some of you posters out

chinch The Commanders won today.

So by your standards if Dallas beats Washington down the line than Washington is the better team.

Sometimes teams get upset. I hate when people say "Oh well the better team won." Thats such a BS oldschool granpa theory.

The Giants beat New England last year. Guess what. The better team lost. The Giants just upset them.

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be ignorant but I did not follow any of that except the last part and I need to disagree. The better team won that day.

I don't know how many times I have to come into smack talking threads during the week leading up to the game and tell people you don't win championships in September and that the Cowboys are not good enough to start collecting Wins before the game starts.

So many people on this board feel like we should blow every team out.

Jerry Jones was on the radio the other day and he talked about how in his first year after a really bad loss, he had his head down and somebody came up to him and told him, that it wasn't that bad and that the other team pays their players too.

This mentality reminds me of the original Dream Team in the Barcelona Olympics and the Cowboys are nowhere near that level.

Ok then, just humor me. What scenario would need to happen for you to consider them over rated?

Making the playoffs by the skin of our teeth or not making the playoffs at all / not ever looking like your a dominant team consistenly through the season.

Then that's our difference. To me it seems you will be happy with mediocrity and I'm aiming a little bit higher.

Just a difference of opinion on what's expected from this team.

No im not settling for mediocrity.

I just refuse to say this team is over rated / sucks if we dont win the Superbowl because they aren't / dont.

I'm curious Jimmy, what fan mindset do you want? I confess, after all the years of reading your takes I still have no earthly idea.
I'm the same guy I was back on the DMN, I haven't changed. I hate excuses and holier than thou attitudes. Pretty simple. but you knew that.

Like I said before, don't mix "suck" and "over rated" together.

I think any fan saying we suck is beyond the comprehension of what it would mean to be over rated.

Myself and others have joked around about what this board would be like if we ever lost a game. The knee jerk over reactions is really no surpise to me.

I just want to know that if you truly believe this team is over rated and not really that great than sign your name in this thread.

I will be glad to bump it throughout the season when we are having much success. ( ask fuzzylumpkins)

First off I want to say the congrats to the Commanders, they won.

But does anyone honestly believe the better team won?

Im not the type of person that thinks because Oregon State can beat USC that Oregon State is the better team.

I think there is a reason why Washington Coaches, Players, Ownership, and Fans feel like world beaters after they beat Dallas.

Its because they all deep down know they beat a better team.
-------

If you think we are over rated from a "what has Dallas accomplished" standpoint than Ok... I can buy that.

But if you think that Dallas is over rated from a talent Stand point than I think you are borderline crazy.

The team we trot out on the field is good enough to win division championships, Conference Championships, and League Championships from a talent stand point.

So when you guys go off saying we are over rated please be a little more specific because I dont think there is a team in the league that we will line up against this year with more talent than the Dallas Cowboys.

Other teams Players, and even coaches acknowledge it.
---------

The Offense

Its really the least of my worries. Jason Garrett put together a lazy game plan today and it showed on the field.

Marion Barber is the heart beat of this offense. We look for him to be the strong left job that eventually sets you up to get knocked out. We never established our jab (Marion Barber).

I dont understand the "Romo needs to stop trying to be Tom Brady thread".

The things he has picked up from Brady have done nothing but make his game and his teamates game better.

He gives the Oline more time to block, which allows the receivers more time to get open.

He also does it to try and cut down on turnovers. So far it hasn't helped him in that category but hey at least hes trying to do something about it.

He'll get it figured out.

The Defense

These guys frustrate the crap out of me.

Im not incredibly against the scheme like I see a lot of you are.

I love the 3-4 defense. Especially with this personell.

We have been playing more bump coverage, and we are bringing the heat from everywhere.

I am displeased with the defenses ability to tackle (or lack there of) and NOT BEING ABLE to GET OFF THE FIELD on 3rd downs.

We will stuff them on 1st, give them 7 yards and 2nd, and allow them to have a 5 yard pass for a 1st.

Today was a weird day for the defense though because we got creamed in the run game (something that rarely happens, and Terrence Newman got ate up in coverage (another thing that rarely happens).

Bottom line is I know we have the personell to get better on defense and I know we have the scheme to get it better as well.

They have to learn to stop busting coverages though. If we dont have this defense top flight by the end of the year I will be disapointed.

The pieces are in place though. Its not like it doesn't have the potential to get better because the right guys to make it work are there.
----

All in all we weren't going 16-0 and we will be favored in almost every game if not every game this year and I expect we'll lose another.

It just happens. It doesn't mean we suck and are over rated.
]

I agree with the fact that Garrett's game plan sucked. We only give Barber 8 carries and zero touches for Felix???????? Just stupid!!!!!!!!!! I thought we were better than the Giants last year in January also, but guess what, they advanced in the playoffs. We CAN"T lose to inferior teams, especially at home, and get to where we want to be.

We were not upset nor was this was a FLUKE.

We all could have seen it coming.

If... AND IT'S A BIG IF... Dallas plays 4-5 WELL EXECUTED WINS (and the skins lose a few) then i'll tell you we're the better team. We played ZERO well executed 60-minute games this year. WAY TOO MANY BONE HEADED PLAYS AND PENALTIES. All 3 "wins" could easily be playoff losses if the competition brought it to us (we wont' play patsies like CLE in the playoffs).

TODAY WAS every loss we have had with Romo at helm. Sure we dont have many losses 'cause we have some talent and a playmakers at QB/WR/RB/TE but taking us out of our game is something well established (see NO game Tuna's last year and NE debacle last year as the games our season tipped and blueprint laid). We aren't hungry, don't force turnovers, don't "BRING IT" to the opponent. Ever. Never.

IMHO the Giants were the best team from Dec-Feb. Sept-Nov is irrelevant.

Sorry, we are totally overrated and have a track record of failure and collapse coupled with a bottom-3 head coach. Get real.

why do posters worry so much who the better team is? 99.99999999999 % of this forum thinks Dallas was better than the Giants were last year, what did that get us? All that matters is who wins. and that BS about Washington players acting like world beaters, didn't hae \\\ppen, if anything they acted like they expected to win.

You obviously didnt see the locker room after the game. I was waiting for the champagne, t shirts and caps to be passed out.

Dang if you say so man.

I didn't know they handed out the Lombardi today.

Dallas is going to lose some games.

another thing, this isn't college football. We weren't going to run the table. And we don't HAVE to run the table.

This is the NFL, and more specifically the NFC East. Right now, who's to say who the better team is? We are still in September. Today, Washington was better. I could care less who might or might not be superior on paper.

That said, I try not to get bogged down in overreaction either way. I don't feel we are quite as good after a win as many of our fans believe us to be. And after this one today, I don't feel we are as poor as the performance might indicate.

Someone mentioned mental toughness. There's something to be said for that. Personally, I don't learn much from a football team when everything is going well. I want to see how this team responds when it's hit in the mouth.

And that will happen plenty down the road, especially late in the season and heading into the playoffs. If this club doesn't dig deep and muster enough gumption once that time comes, what's on paper won't amount to much.

Dallas is 3-1 and has a favorable schedule leading up to our trip to New York. This loss doesn't bother so much on its own. In fact, I much rather these "eye openers" come sooner than later.

Though, today's Commander gameplan does carry a familiar look to it. Washington smacked us upside the head and pushed our team around today. I want to see how we respond to this little setback. So-called talent is great, but a tough, hardened football team is what I hope to see after Thanksgiving.

If we are lucky, today's lesson could actually help towards that end. One can only hope.

In my view overreaction = "We suck" "We're done". However being critical when and where critique is warranted is being a caring, involved observer.

My Dad loves me without question. However, when I was little he didn't hesitate to tan my arse when I stepped out of line. He didn't (and still doesn't) hesitate to sit me down and give me a stern talking to when I was misguided or errant in my ways. In response, I never looked at him and thought he was a quitter. I didn't think he should just give up on me and find another daughter to love because he was yelling at me.

Case in point. When I eight and lived in Hawaii I almost drowned in ocean. We were at a North Shore beach. While my parents stopped to talk to some people, my older brother climbed out onto some rocks to get a better view of the huge waves crashing in. I followed him. Out of nowhere a huge wave caught me off guard and knocked me into the ocean. The force of the current held me under and I couldn't surface. My brother yelled for my father. Dad ran over and jumped in to save me. Once we were both out and safe, what was Dad's terrified reaction to my stupidity climbing out on the rocks? He yelled at me...harshly. Yeah, I might have thought he was crazy at the time but in the end I knew what his reaction was all about.

People are critical because they care about this team of ours. I don't think it's wrong for them to voice their frustration at poor playing. And when they do it doesn't mean they want to find another team to root for. It just means they want the team they adore to play better.

Having said that...our defense needs some work. I am sick and tired of them playing prevent type defense, giving 10 yard cushions on every pass and then trying to tackle after the receiver has already gained yardage. That's how teams march up and down the field on us. We better take some lessons from Smoot and Springs on how to get up in there and block a darn ball or put enough pressure on the receiver that he drops it.

We lost. We played poorly. But I still love them Boys, though.
