If he's cheap, why not? You want to have the ability to rotate better to keep people fresh
Aldon was and is a great story, but its time to get our youngsters some quality reps in meaningful situations. Only way I keep Aldon is if he's solely used as a pass rush specialist on 3rd downs. I have a feeling Anae will have a coming out party this year given a chance in camp. The kid never had a chance last year, much less a camp.

Broaddus wouldn't get into anything specific. He simply said there are issues that need looked at with him. He was hinting at some possible off-field stuff.
Thank you.......missed that. I was sincerely wondering due to Aldons previous issues.

I bet theres some things been percolating with ALDON going back to 2020 off the field. Which might explain where he had games when they essentially made him a healthy scratch or benched him.

Been a minute since the Cowboys had a good young edge rusher, DLaw n Gregory are 28. Time to draft a baller, or trust the combination of Quinn plus the DL Coach can develop 1 of the 23 year olds (Armstrong, Anae, Hamilton n Carter).

I think Aldon was carrying too much weight.

I trust Quinn a ton. Hes won a SB and been to another with ATL. He has skins on the wall recently too. MM better be onboard with him and willing to be flexible or this will be another tough year and he will find himself gone. Quinn is the hc in waiting anyway. Lets be clear.

ANAE is that guy. He will be a great edge guy, but dang he needs reps. I cant wait to see the development under Quinn..a real damned coach. This guy gets it, what it takes to win. He relates to todays player very well and is respected. Neal never comes here if Quinn is not here. We would be staring at Darian Thompson once again starting at safety lol..no joke.

FYI......PPF placed his value at $7/8M range. Of course, that may be a bit much but no way in hell he signing for only a $1m bucks again.

23. EDGE ALDON SMITH
Smith’s return to the NFL is a miraculous comeback story after a four-year absence from 2016-19. While he hasn’t quite been the superstar he was with the 49ers, he’s still generated a 70.0 pass-rush grade while playing at least 40 snaps in every game so far in 2020 — a testament to his conditioning. He’s been moved all over the defensive front, and his 50 pressures tell a better story than his four sacks, as he was a solid pass-rusher in his return to the NFL.

Contract Analysis: Arguably the most impressive aspect of Smith’s return was that he did not sign a veteran minimum contract, negotiating a deal with a maximum value of $2 million in Dallas. At 31 years old, Smith has proven to just be a different type of human, and one final payday as a veteran will be a great end to his story.

Prediction: Two years, $15 million ($7.5M APY): $10 million total guaranteed, $8 million fully guaranteed at signing.

They missed out taking a Seattle pick for him

What was the pick?

I wonder what interest he's seen. It was weird how they overplayed him last year. Almost like they were trying to put out bad tape for him, so they could get him back cheap.

I think his body just wasn't prepared for a full NFL season after 5 years off. I expect him to have a better season this year. If it's with us, great.

I wonder if they haven't extended Gregory because they have hope to get Aldon really cheap for a few years.

OTC had him around 9mil. I expect he has a better season this year, with his body in better shape to hold up to the NFL.

I'm fine with pass rush specialists. Most of the game is in nickel these days. Run support is the new specialty skill.
