Are there any campers out there that can give me some advice?

My girlfriend and I are about to try camping out but I haven't camped in 20 - 25 years or so. I'm looking for recommendations on good camping gear. In particular a good tent that'll hold our queen size inflatable bed and maybe a few other things.

I haven't been camping since I was a kid either, but these folks have some idea's for you.

Camping.com

Hope you two have a great time.

lmao..if you're bringing a queen size inflatable bed....wouldn't it just be easier to bring some more plants inside the house? Maybe open the windows?

My number one rule of advise for camping is to make a honest assessment of how many times you think you'll be using the equipment, and make your purchase accordingly. However, with camping equipment, the adage 'you get what you pay for' is never more true. It's important to find a proper medium.

IIRC, there was a thread on this topic not too long ago that covered this topic. I'd try and do a search for 'tent'. However, there are several equipment review sites you can find with a google search that would likely be far more helpful than the relatively few campers you may find on this forum.

tomson is an expert camper, because he's always having to hide-out in the woods when a chick disappears

so listen very well to him

My son and I had a camping trip two weeks ago.

We used a small 3 season tent. No way would a queen-sized inflatable mattress fit in it.

Sorry I'm not much help. I hadn't camped in years until two weeks ago.

Anyone besides me find it a giggle, that the guy from "The Woodlands", is seeking camping advice?

I don't know if it's my browser but the search function is missing because that was my first instinct.

Geeeezus dude!! Do you even HAVE a sense of humor, or are you among the other 99.999% of the rest here, suffering from stick-up-ace disease?

No need answering, you already did!

Ridgeway tents are really good. Kelty tents are not bad. Coleman the same. The best thing to do is look for a 6 to 8 man tent with an air mattress that big.

Holler if you want some cooking ideas. :D

For some reason I don't think he'll be worried about cooking. :laugh2:

Kind of missing out on the idea of camping in a tent if you want to bring an inflatable queen sized mattress.

Is there a reason you can't get some sleeping bags?

Not ragging on ya but I don't get that one.

LOL, I knew that was coming. As soon as someone quips back at one of your stupid remarks you get your feelings hurt.

Thanks Hos, I'll do a web search on the brands you mentioned.

as an old guy who has camped a lot, ignore all the macho talk about your air mattress...take it and enjoy it.
take pillows.
coleman doesnt make a bad anything. there are some better but coleman
is solid.
take wet-ones.....so handy for so many things.
if you go to a state park and you intend to have a fire....take wood.

I think we're going to try Huntsville State Park to start. It's pretty close and has some nice nature trails:

Do you have any other suggestions on places to go in East Texas?

I think BrainPaint said the Spongebob sleeping bags aren't very warm.

dont really camp much in east texas anymore ( originally from beaumont area)

i have noticed the older i get , i tend to camp at parks closer to where i live.

i hate to get started on ALL the things you can take cuz my wife says i
seriously over do it on gadgets, gizmo's, and assorted stuff.

trash bags, toilet paper, matches, leatherman tool, first aid items....

I love camping!!

If you are still in college, you should go and see if they'll let you rent equipment for free or cheap.

You should find out what the camping grounds have and see what else you'll need.

things to come to mind are
Flashlights
wood, lighter fluid
cooler
