The closest I've ever seen this team do it. Was the Barry Switzer years.. I know exactly what Troy Aikman was saying back then. Where is the discipline. I believe we can still win. It's too early in the season to give up. But we can't continue playing as individuals. I just don't have faith in this coaching staff. I don't see a leader. I just see a bunch of individuals on and off the field.

The thing about the Switzer years was that he had a bunch of quality assistants remaining that Jimmy had assembled. Barry had enough sense not to screw that up.

But like you, I don't have much faith in the coaching staff right now. Hopefully, they can get things straightened out to get that faith back.

In 2019 no.

You could get away with it in the 90's when you could just build ultimate rosters but now days it's all about coaching and QB's.

I thought our oline and Zeke might be able to overcome our coaching but the Oline and Zeke doesn't provide big plays anymore. It's just 3 or 4 yards over and over until we screw up and punt.

These self-entitled individuals won't make it on their own, It is oblivious that their personal happiness comes at the team's success.

Coaching is your only real advantage in the salary cap era. For example; Imagine Josh Daniels as a head coach and Kellen Moore as a play caller. Advantage Cowboys. IMO.

No.

I cannot remember the last team to win a super bowl with a meh coach or an elite player/defense

when the owner takes over and will not give up the reins, it's going to be an ongoing problem. As the years have passed, it has only gotten worse.

I know JJ means well, but he is not a coach. He also needs to keep his mouth shut. 2 things that will not happen when it comes to JJ, stop coaching and shutting up.

It took multiple HOF talents on that Switzer team to do it.

The salary cap era has really pushed even more importance on coaching because there is so much roster turnover every year now. But the FO in Dallas lives in 1991.

I don't think a team can. Even in '95, we had the same great assistant coaches, and people like portraying Switzer as a moron, but he wasn't that. He was intelligent. An idiot could not have had the success he had at Oklahoma. I do question some of his coaching approaches with the Cowboys. I don't think he was good on discipline like Jimmy was. But he wasn't a dummy who put together bad game plans.

This exact reason is why coaching in Dallas isn’t as glamorous as it once was.

I don’t expect a young guy like Lincoln Riley to come in here and be a yes man.

College teams with dominant talent can get away with it. Nick Saban is a “genius” because every Saturday when Ala lines up for the kickoff they have a huge talent advantage.

In the NFL, coaching is way more important because the talent margins are thinner and being able to be creative with scheme and be able to adapt to what opponents are trying to take away from you is critical. 99% of the time, the teams who win in the playoffs have the best coaches. Any surprise why we have only won 3 wild card round playoff games this century?

But we have only gotten through 1/5th of the century. We still have 80 years to change things.
