He said he won't sign if drafted pass 3rd. Best bet is to try him as an udfa and offer him 3 rd round money with language to protect yourself.

Are they allowed to pay udfas that much money, i.e. does the payscale not apply to udfas?

Yeah, I think they would have to guarantee him money. Because a big bonus wouldn't be doable and fit under the rookie cap figure.

He has no leverage in negotiations. He can't go back to college.

I betcha he starts at both T positions as the swing, but then we try him out at OG at some point to test his 'position flex.' Really, we're going to get a read on whether we think he can be a LG because I don't think we want to give Leary a big deal with his knee condition, and his play and his age is going to warrant a fairly big deal.

Just what I was thinking, this could be Learys last year in Dallas. We can't afford to pay everyone on Ol and we have to keep Smith, The Beard, and Martin. This has Chaz as back up at G and T and next year as G when Leary is gone.

If that is the case, then it may not be too difficult to convince him to not re-enter the 2016 draft.

If he gets drafted, is then cleared of the murder and could re-enter next years draft, he would still likely fall because teams will see him and more focused on the money than playing football.

If he re-enters and falls, I think it'll be because of the year he sat out. Considering the unique situation that was out of his control, I don't think teams will see him as being more focused on money than playing football.

I would be stupid to sit out a year, IMO. If he is good, he'll get paid eventually and even the NFL minimum is a good salary to live on.

Didn't the NFL rule that if not drafted this season, he would remain just a free agent?

I really don't remember the details. I just seems like it's been a long time since a rookie held out in the NFL, but maybe I just have not paid attention.

Yep.

His injuries and functional strength is what dropped his grade.

Injuries are always an iffy thing.

The functional strength part-- well I think the Cowboys will be dealing with that in short order. Let's see what the kid can accomplish over the next 3 months.

Heard last night he's injury prone like Lee. True?

He wants to be a udfa. His agents threat is just and attempt to get him to go undrafted and get to udfa status where teams will have to bid for him.

He wasn't the best tackle on his college team. Arizona took him in the first round.

Edit: Whoops I mis-read the post. He is supposed to be very versatile, so I'd say yes.

I was wondering in a pinch can he kick inside if Ron goes down or if he out plays Ron in camp

He can play inside but he will be the swing tackle and they are probably grooming him to replace Free in a few years assuming he is good enough.

OL coach said he has the OL players practicing different positions for flex purposes.

I don't know but at that point they are offer contacts with little to no bonus money. They can probably try to give him a good amount of gurantee money.

He has all the power he needs. He told teams he will not sign. So it will become a wasted pick. A player who does not sign can enter the draft the following year. So basically he told teama if you don't want me at these spots your not going to get me at all, which is fair.
