The Eagles made that trade way before the draft to purge some of Chippers mistakes, Dallas at #4 was not going to be able to find a trade up partner for a RB a week before the draft, when the entire world was saying you can't draft a RB that high, and even if they did, whose to say our deal would have been better than PHIL? It is extremely possible we'd find ourselves missing out on Wentz, Zeke, Ramsey or anyone else top 5 when we already had a franchise QB and the cap tied into that, it is stupid.

Yeah the trade down scenario would have been risky. I would have just matched the Eagles offer. It really wasn't that much. "The Eagles sent five draft picks to the Browns: the No. 8 pick in the first round, a third-round pick (77th overall) and a fourth-round pick (100th overall) in this year's draft, a first-round pick in 2017 and a second-round pick in 2018. Cleveland also sends a fourth-round pick in 2017 to the Eagles." Not that bad.

You are missing the point, this wasn't an on the clock trade, it happened a week before the draft. Your idea of moving down and back up using Elliott as bait could only happen on draft day with our pick coming up meaning there is no better deal for Cleveland to pick from.

No I'm saying we should have matched the Eagles offer one week before the draft without moving down and back up. Just straight up match it and our offer would have been better since our picks were higher. The Browns did call the Cowboys to match but we didn't pull the trigger.

No but if he miraculously slips to 19, run to the podium.

No the Eagles Browns trade happened in real life. Not Madden. So suggesting the the Cowboys should have matched the offer is actually realistic.
Again you have clearly missed the point.

What do you not get about, if a team doesn't want to trade with another team you can't force them...... This isn't hard to understand

The Browns called the Cowboys to match and they didn't. End of story.

That would be an interesting dilemma if Rosen slipped to us at 19. I just don't think Jerry is ready to give up on Dak, nor do I think we should.

If for some reason Rosen slips to 19 JJ has to draft him even with Dak still on this team. If he hesitates then Stephen has to step in and declare him mentally incompetent. They can figure out who will be the Cowboys QB for the next 10 years and trade the other one. Dak is not a sure thing so you can't let a chance at drafting a franchise QB slip through.

5 QBs could very well go in the 1st round if the right one falls to us we may take him...

Rosen
Mayfield
Darnold
Allen
Jackson

Will all go in the 1st round IMO
