LA has had several chances to support teams- and never has. The Rams did the best, but they never really set attendance records, did they? I really do not think LA deserves a team, and even if it got one would not really support it.

LA does not truthfully deserve a team but the NFL isn't interested about awarding, they are sleepless and baffled the second largest media market in the country doesn't have their product to sell.

I always heard that the fans in LA are to uppity to attend NFL games - they would rather go to movie premiers or glitter parties or what not?

You think that has anything to do with it...?

I think superficial would be more appropriate. If they're winning, they'll be there to be seen with the winners....but wouldn't be caught dead with a bunch of losers.

Well, if that is the case, there is no freaking way the Redstinks ever move to LA!!

If they're so uppity, why do UCLA and USC games and Lakers games always sell out?

I really don't know why LA doesn't support the NFL... It's a great sports town, just something about the NFL doesn't catch on... or didn't anyway. I didn't live there while there was an NFL team, so I'm not sure why that is.

I would say it had something to do with actually getting "their own team," instead of one that moved there, but the Lakers and Dodgers moved there... so that blows that theory up a little bit. I do think they would be more apt to support a team now, provided there was only one in the area.

I don't know where you got that from, but I don't think anyone is saying you shouldn't question what the NFL does.
I can agree with that. It would be more accurate in saying that others don't share my opinion--which I believe is correct.

As for the rest of the post, parity and level of talent are two different issues. You can have a level playing field (i.e. the cap) but still be at a critical mass as it pertains to talent level. When you pass that point -- we're either at that point or past it according to most fans opinions -- the talent level is so watered down no amount of parity will guarantee a good product on the field.
It's past that point, imo. Has been for some time, too.

If the NFL were to expand, guys that normally wouldn't be in the league would then have jobs, and even if it were a level playing field in the small markets, the teams would be less talented.

Personally, I think the league is okay at 32... it could stand to lose 2-4 teams, but with the popularity of the sport, eventually the talent level will catch up. Right now, there aren't enough starting caliber QBs for example. But give it a few years and you may see it even out... that is when you can talk about expansion. As for now, when I see guys like Aaron Brooks, Tarvaris Jackson, Brooks Bollinger, Charlie Frye, etc. competing for/ starting as QBs in the league, I don't think expansion is something to be seriously considered.
I don't believe that colleges or other leagues (Arena, NFL Europe, etc.) will ever be able to pump enough talent into enough teams to my liking, but that's just the way it is. However, I do think that expansion will be seriously considered at some future point--even if it does not include any of the cities I've mentioned earlier.

the only two cities who have a chance of getting a nfl team any time soon is l.a and las vegas.
but i don't see any expansion anytime soon. there simpley is not enough quality qb's for 32 teams so expansion would make that worse.
my thinking is if it ain't broke don't fix it. if a team can't make money, move then but we have enough teams right now
Agreed.

How watered down do you want the league to be. I wish they could eliminate two teams. The quarterback play is horrendous.

The last two superbowls have been two of the all time worst ever, because of the nature of the league right now, more teams would make it awful.

Big FAT agreement there... even some Steelers fans I know werent happy about that SB win.... the Colts just got one out of the way...

I dont know about you guys... but... to me..... the NFL was best when it was Dallas, San Fran and Green Bay duking it out for NFC title games and SB...

no one gives a hoot now when these slob teams make it... ie. Philly:eek: :lmao2:

Because of how the divisions are currently aligned, it's highly doubtful that an expansion team will be added in the next ten years. The league is pleased with the even divisions and conferences, so any move to L.A. (the next possible franchise site) will have to come from the relocation of an existing franchise - New Orleans and San Diego being at the top of the list.

I think monetarily the league could support an expansion team, but for reasons listed would like to stick with the existing format.

Quality-wise I favor this decision and agree that the league is already watered down enough as it is.

I agree. It isn't going to change anytime soon.

The owners just turned down a proposal to allow more players, maybe they thought that would water things down even further - who knows? Maybe they just didn't want to be paying any more players and keep a little more money for themselves; after all, it is a business meant to increase the owner's capital.

Logistics played a small part in the failings of the Raiders and Rams in the 90s.

The LA Collesium is in a crummy and dangerous part of town and few were willing to take such risks to their personal safety and combat LA traffic all to see a mediocre franchise (the Raiders) and a losing one (the Rams).

I don't know if an NFL team would ever succeed in LA because they already view USC as their football team largely and turn to San Diego or San Francisco to root for a pro.

16 million people, a number of them illegal or foreign and disinterested in American sports as well.

I live on Sunset and by the looks of most of my neighbors there aren't many people who could throw a tight spiral, I'll leave it at that.

Basically the pro team would have to gain social acceptabilty like the Lakers, where courtside is the place to be seen, anybody who is anybody is at a Lakers game. Getting noticed, pitching scripts, talking studio business, scouting talent, you name it. Much harder to do in a football stadium.

I think the NFL could handle expansion....I think it could be nice for only the short term though. But to keep the league even you would need to add 4 new teams...to go from 32 to 36. I personally feel there is room to expand to 36, but no more. Then the league could realign to six 6-team divisions....

However, from a practicality standpoint it isn't wise to expand. There are already teams struggling to be successful or make it as it is. There is no reason to bring in 4 new franchises that will struggle also. I say just leave the league at 32 teams.

IMO, instead of expanding.....simply force owners who dont seem committed to fielding a winning product to sell to someone else who does seem committed. Also, if a fan base isn't supporting a team, allow the owner the opportunity to move to a new location.

Do not put a pro team in Los Angeles....they have proven with the Raiders and Rams that they are not going to support a team. Besides, they already have 2 football teams....USC and UCLA

Although I have been a lifelong Cowboys fan...I would love for a team to move to San Antonio. I think it would be awesome for this city. I would want an AFC team though, that way we could still get the Cowboys games on TV and I can root for 2 teams to make the SB every year.

Surely, if Florida can support the Jaguars, Buccaneers and Dolphins, Texas (where football is practically a religion) could host three teams as well, at the very least. That's always seemed strange to me and I'm not even a Texas native.

San Antonio would end up like Jacksonville, a small market, so it is actually a noteworthy comparison.

Miami tradition wise is closer to Dallas and I'd hate to insult the Bucs by comparing them to Houston but from a strict Texas and Florida comparison this would be the equivalency.

Central Texas is full of Cowboy fans so it would be interesting to see if their loyalties shifted if the San Antonio Pioneers came into existence for example.

This is Cowboys country. All over Texas is Cowboys country. It has been for over 4 decades now...

Its kinda like all of NE is Boston Red Sox country. Sure there may be a place to put another team, but why? Boston is established and has a stronghold on the area for over a century...
