Andre The Giant? King Kong Bundy? Big John Studd?

These are just a few of the old guys who were dominate heels for long periods of time, or on multiple occassions, and it worked.

How about Vader? He was a dominate heel for a pretty good run in WCW and no one got tired of that. If anything they cut that off too quickly.

Kane had a LONG run as a dominating heel.

Obviously you don't want every big guy doing it but it can, and has, been done many times over the years quite effectively.

Bruiser Brody was the ultimate monster heel because he worked as a free agent and was one of wrestling's highest paid wrestler...all because he could do the monster heel gimmick and it got over just about everywhere, from AWA to World Class to Florida to Japan.

Your right, those guys did have long runs as dominant monster heels, however back then a fan would see Andre a few times a year if they were a rabid fan outside of New York. Now you would be seeing someone dominating someone most weeks more than once, it's different. After 6 or so months you get bored of it, like what happened with Umaga's run as a dominant heel, it has to end at some point.

Monster heels are great because not only do they draw, but they can turn face down the road and draw. And then they can turn back to a heel. They won't quite be as over as they were in their first run as a heel, but they can still be very much over because the fans remember the 'devastation' they created from that first run.

TNA never put Abyss fully over and they missed out on a lot of money because of it. That's really booking/wrestling writing 101 and Russo completely missed the boat and Dixie Carter just doesn't have a clue.

Abyss could've been a huge monster heel, but it's not like they didn't push him. He had a dominant run in 05/06. He had that idiotic run as Hulk Hogans chosen successor, remember the horrendous Abyssmania storyline.

One guess which wrestling hating mod changed the title .....

:laugh2:

And they should change it back because it's pointless and there was absolutely no reason for them to be changing the title.

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean you should use your mod status to try and be cute.

Quite right. I left him off like an idiot. Thank you for mentioning him.

Umagas run didn't suck cause he was a monster heel. It sucked because Umaga sucked. Period.
