Can Pickens be tagged and traded next year?

Well the prevailing opinion I kept hearing yesterday was this was a one year rental with the max possibility of a 3rd comp pick in return for letting him walk. I’m simply asking-suggesting that trading for more draft value could be an option. An option I didn’t hear anyone talk about all day yesterday
That doesn't change my statement. He hasn't played a single down with the Cowboys. Can't we just see how that plays out.

AJ Brown was traded in year 4, just like Pickens. Both AJ and Smith are making over 25m a year. There is literally no reason why the Cowboys couldn't afford to resign Pickens as well.

I believe this is his one year prove it year. That seems to both he and his agents opinion! That’s why they didn’t ask nor were offered an extension. If he fails then there wouldn’t be demand. But if on a contract year he plays and acts like it’s a contract year ( which happens often) then I think there will be demand.
Then gets a big bag and goes back to himself?

I would assume most teams, that crossed him off during the draft, then seem his first 3 years confirm why, will not changed their mind, when they know he has to be on his best behavior.

So we complain that the front office doesn't make any moves...and before the guy even plays a down, we ask about trading him? Got it.
But we're never active in free agency for any real players.

Dumpster diving, digging in the trash, cheap Stephen, this FO, our owner sucks

Did I do that right?

You guys are over thinking it. If Pickens hit the free agent market this past free agent season he probably would have made $20-25 million a season. At best after this season if everything goes well as a Cowboy he would make Higgins money as a top end number 2. Pickens and his agent are probably betting on a best season of his career season with the Cowboys but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Cowboys get the Bland extension over the summer and then franchise Pickens. The Cowboys have plenty of cap space to do so.

And he's just the type of player you use the space on..

If Pickens has a strong season, Cowboys would extend him rather to see if they could get better compensation for what they acquired him for. Now if they determined, he priced himself off the roster, then that could be a possibility. I think the Cowboys have all intentions of making this more then just a 1yr rental but want to see how things play out first.

Yes let’s see what happens !! That was my statement = Options one of which being that we COULD trade him !! If you read the title of the post it was asking IF we could?

I don't understand why are you looking to trade him? If he plays well, he isn't going anywhere. The Cowboys wouldn't make this trade if they thought he was just a rental. Pickens has the year to show his worth, if the Cowboys don't want to move forward after the season, they just take a comp pick back.
Exactly.......no team trades a 3rd round thinking ONLY 1 year. They are hoping a change in scenery and a new team will clean up the issues the player has had, enough to stay for X amount of time.

If things start off well, Jerry needs to sign him mid season. We can't over pay for this kid, with his drama, or have his pay tied to making the roster each year. We need escape options in his contract.

This will be his best year but Stephen isn't great at trading away players.

Let’s consider, a hypothetical scenario. Lamb and Pickens both are healthy enough to start and play in 13 games this season. Lamb catches 67 balls on 97 targets. Seven touchdown receptions. Pickens catches 68 balls on 89 targets. Eight touchdown receptions.

Understanding this is just a fan speculating. Do you think Pickens will be looking for compensation similar to Lamb’s? And be disappointed if it’s not offered? Or do you think he’ll accept the number two receiver role and compensation like other top WR2’s in the NFL? If you had to guess, based on knowing only what a NFL fan could know at this point.
Did you randomly come up with those numbers, or did you purposely take AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith numbers from last season???

I see your point, and it is a fair question. I went to Spotrac and saw that for the next 2-4 years, the Brown and Smith contracts combined take up between 11-13% of the cap for the Eagles. Assuming Pickens balls out and wants the bag, and wants more than Smith, do you think Jerry would pay up to 15% of cap for two WR's, knowing that he'll have to pay Tyler Smith soon? If Overshown stays healthy and balls out, he'll have to be paid as well in two years IMO--he just has too much potential to let walk. What if a top-tier DT comes on the market--do you want to keep cap flexibility to be able to sign that player? Jerry has some thinking to do for the next 18 months.

With all our weapons, Shotty should be able to distribute the ball accordingly. Not allowing for anyone player to dominate the stats, resulting in over compensation.

Don't be surprised if/when CD gets upset, when his targets are significantly down.

With this many weapons, everyone is going to think they are open 90% of the time.

Adding Pickens will also help open up our run game.

I hope Schotty can make it work. Cinci does with Burrow throwing the ball, and Philly does because they always compete. We need 2016-2018 Dak back.

“Jerry has some thinking to do”. Has that ever worked out well? Pickens will want “the bag” no matter what he does.

If Pickens shuts his mouth and doesn’t cause locker room issues, he has a much better shot at the bag than complaining about not getting enough targets to bump his numbers.

Hopefully he realizes that. Shoddy seriously does not need that headache. Jerry is plenty enough.

Wide receivers that have already been paid want more targets.
