Can someone explain to me why starters were in yesterday up 20?

Been a Cowboys fan for 43 years and will NEVER understand in this league why coaches do that ...in college when up comfortably late in the game, you always see the 2nd stringers. It's the prudent thing to do for two reasons: get your starters out of harm's way so they don't get hurt and it also allows the backups some reps so they can improve and not get frustrated by lack of playing time.

I think the answer is it's just always the way it's been done because they ALL do it. Parsons was wore down to a nub yesterday at the end: gassed as hell and he's still in there. Not smart IMO, same with Dak....we KNOW we have a solid backup: put him in. Thoughts?

Did you happen to see Ravens vs Dolphins? If you did then that is your answer. If you did not then well if you look at a recap of it you can see that even a 20 point lead in the 4th is not a guaranteed win.

Because the starters needed the reps. They didn't play during preseason and looked like crap in the opener and are now playing together after their QB got hurt. The more reps helps the team stay sharp. Play scared and you get hurt.

Plus they have a bye next week.

Me personally, I think it was because the game never really seemed clinched until late 4th quarter. That team battled back from a 21-7 deficit and even after Micah scored, they went right back down and scored again. it seemed like we were approaching shootout territory, until Pollard scored on that last drive. Think it was a wrap after that and i'm pretty sure Micah didn't play anymore after we scored that final time

Fields was out - Donovan Wilson had just been hurt. It was silly to have them in there.

Dallas was up 20+ a few times.
The Bears at one point scored 16 unanswered to cut a 20+ lead significantly.

Also this is the NFL.
You don't have full 1st and 2nd strings on game days.
Especially if guys get dinged in game.
Colleges have 90 man active rosters, NFL half that.
Parsons was rested all day and played one of his lower snap count games.
He was gassed because he recovered a fumble and ran it all the way back for a TD.

They had 2 RB and both played.
The only person they could have taken out a series early was Dak. And he is only a couple games back with a BYE week coming.
They played Peters and McGovern.

Who exactly did you want to see in the game that you didn't?

I did NOT see that game but did hear about what happened. You don't want to let your foot off the gas pedal too soon but yesterday with about 5 min's to go I think our lead was safe

We were getting gashed against the run the entire game. It doesn’t take much to get back in a game in the NFL. An opponent can get a couple of quick scores in no time and right back in it. I wasn’t comfortable we had that game sewed up until the last few minutes. Our defense was having a rough day.

Some colleges suit up a hundred guys on game day. The NFL suits up 46. Aint no "second team" to roll out there. Yes there are backups at various positions.. but they dress either 8 or 9 offensive linemen.. 5 receivers.. 2 running backs and 2 QBs. There aint enough backups to pull all the starters.. and if you pull some do you want to be telling the ones you don't pull that they're not important?

All that said, the real reason is this is the NFL. You relax for an instant you can find yourself the victim of a historic comeback.

2nd stringers in general: for Oline/Dline/Secondary/QB....etc. Just don't agree with keeping them in that late when comfortably up but I'm seeing you guys agree with the coaches. Agree to disagree I guess

I think they seem to have to points at 35 before they pull starters.

I thought there were several questionable coaching decisions made yesterday, despite the big win.

That pass right before the half that was intercepted that gave Chicago 3 points and momentum before the half. The smart play is to take a knee and go into the half. The odds of something bad happening (which did!) are higher than anything good.

Having Parsons still out there getting further banged up and Prescott potentially injured again on a dumb pass play when you should be running out the clock are additional coaching gaffes.

‘Statistics guys’ should know better.

They all played some.
The unheard of back up OG/OC played on ST but not sure you want Dakoda Sheply and Alan Ball in a regular offense.
Everyone else played.
Defense played every player they had.
Markquese Bell played double digit snaps.
Teams do not get full 2nd strings in regular season.
Every young guy pushing for playing time got in.

Parsons is chasing the sack title and wants to play.
Not sure you can force him to sit without ticking him off royally.

Obviously, they played aggressively all day and took that out to 49 total points which is a fine way to win same winning 30-10 is.
I wouldn't call that a gaffe as much as a stated game plan.
But it was absolutely the opposite game plan they have been using this season.

Dak made a poor decision there. Thats largely on him but was his one awful throw of the game.

Speaking of Wilson, all I have seen is undisclosed.
Wilson was officially designated with muscle cramps as the reason for his departure from this contest, though the exact nature of this issue is still unclear.
