The Cowboys had quite an offense in 2016, when Dak Prescott took the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award after posting the third-best passer rating and total QBR behind Matt Ryan and Tom Brady, Ezekiel Elliott led the NFL in rushing, and the O-line won the inaugural Offensive Line of the Year Award.

The 2016 Cowboys scored 421 points, the 10th-most in franchise history, for a cool 26.3 points per game average. That wasn't quite enough to reach the 30-point per game threshold, but it was the fifth-best total in the league last year, and a little over a field goal shy of that 30-point threshold.

Why fixate on those 30 points? Because since realignment in 2002, and after the Greatest Show on Turf averaged more than 30 points per game for three consecutive years from 1999-2001, only 18 teams have averaged more than 30 points per game (which translates to 480 points per season), and all but one of those teams made the playoffs.

Doubtful, not because they can't but because of the way they run the offense. In as much is our defense is the problem, we need to keep the offense on the field for as long as possible before laying up 7.

I think the only way they average a score of 30 depends on the OTHER side of the ball....the more 3&outs they can cause, the more Dak&Co have the ball in their hands, thus, more chances for scores

This year's offensive goal: Bailey has most PATs in the league

I'm not concerned on how many points they score per game, I'm concerned on winning games, especially the first playoff. Just want the hater's and so called football gurus to eat grow AGAIN after saying how Dak won't be as good. o_O

Probably not. Mainly because of the style of play. Long grind-it-out type of offensive drives and a rope-a-dope style defense. Ideally, this team is setup to win each game 24-13, 27-17....or somewhere in that range of scores.

It'll be tough to score 30 per game with a grind-it-out offense vs. the many stingy defenses we'll be up against. If that's not enough, this season's schedule is one that promises very tight games vs. great teams with elite QBs. I'll mainly be hoping to win, regardless of the points we score.

I think they're capable of it, but it would come at expense of ball and clock control, which the offense is now predicated on.

So that said, the 26 ppg number might not be 30, but it should "feel" like 30 for a lot of games.
