Can we beat the Colts in a shootout?

On the real, I should hope Julius Jone will get the rock around 20 to 30 times this ball game because he could have a career day against their horrible run defense!
This formula would be the ideal situation for us to be in a position to win. However, if our defense can't stop their offense and we turnover the ball - we may not have a choice.

The best case scenario as you indicated would be that our running game keeps Manning on the sideline.

You are correct in that assessment, I want to see the old Julius Jones who was slicing and dicing defenses two years ago!

If Manning starts slinging the ball at will it will be an embarrising afternoon to be a Cowboys fan.

Dude. I wear my Cowboys gear on Mondays AFTER a loss. It will never be embarassing.

I feel the same way. Romo can move the chains and get us in a position to win.

But in a straight shootout match where our defense can't stop Manning?

Ok so we cant stop their QB and they cant stop our RB's. 1 weakness each. I can live with that

oh man... watch them stop the run because everyone says they are bad run defense... another team that treats this game like a SB

We dont need to make it a shootout, this may be a game where we actually need to play parcells football and practice ball control, keep it close, a maybe let Romo win it for us in the end.

Just curious to hear your opinion on a potential shootout match with Manning company. I wonder if Parcells and coaching staff are devising a couple of gameplans - one with keeping the game close as Parcells like to do; or a worse case scenario where the Colts are putting up points that prevents us from staying with being conservative.

Say the Colts come firing out and are up 10-0 or more. Do you scrap the ball-control gameplan or do you start to panic and unleash Romo? And if we're forced to have a shootout match, do you think we can stay up with the Colts?

Based on what Romo has shown with this offense, I'm somewhat confident we can stay close providing we don't shoot ourselves in the foot by committing drive-killing penalties.

Your thoughts?

Yes we can, but we'd be playing their game if we do. We need to play our game by mixing up the run and the pass so we can control the clock. Keep their defense, which isn't very good, off balance, but still run the ball down their throats.

There honestly is not a single fiber in my body that says we can't beat Indy. In any type of a game. We can win a shootout, or ball control. We're gonna win this game, and win or lose, Romo Will Match Manning Stat for Stat!

I like our chances a whole lot better in a 13-10 game than in a shootout.

Name a single team in the NFL that would feel comfortable in a shootout situation with the Colts.

The original question is flawed - nobody wants or would feel comfortable in a shootout with Manning. Every team spends a ton of time devising ways for the game *not* to become a shootout. Most of them fail, at least in the regular season.

OTOH, 9 teams have tried their best to keep him off the field this year. Even one of the best running teams in the league, Denver, failed.

I'm starting to think we should just open it up on them just because there is no way they expect it. THe "run the ball to keep Manning off the field" thing has gone 0-9. Just saying......

No, if you let Manning do what he wants all game then you are playing to the Colts strengths. Quality not quantity is what you want out of Romo. My biggest fear is that the Colts exploit the middle of the field like the Skins did.

Regardless of the outcome, this might be THE most exciting game the Cowboys are involved in this year with two really potent offenses going head to head. I predict a high-scoring game with lots of lead changes. The final score will resemble that from a Mavs-Suns game I'll bet....

maybe. I definitely think we can roll with the Colts. The difference in this game could be emotion. If we can keep our intensity level high, and the crowd is loud... we might be able to take the Colts a little out of their game early.

If we can get a lead and run the football we will be in good shape because I think if we need to high octane the offense at any point we can against the Colts D- I'm not sure the Colts have faced a D with our talent yet on their schedule. It's been inconsistent, but we have big play ability and the Colts cannot run the football at all.

I know we will move the football. I think the Colts can also. As an out of town Cowboys fan I'm counting on the people attending the game to be extremely loud in this game. The stadium should rock. This game is huge and as high profile as it gets.

If we get the ball last with the game tied or down no more than three I think we will win.

Interesting and very good points made.

If I were Dungee, I'd play to the strength of that offense and force this shootout. I'm sure they know our safetys play aggressive with a rookie and a safety who is better suited to play close to the LOS, while Aaron Glenn has a tendency of getting beat.

Therefore, I would be willing to bet the Colts will try and go deep and challenge our secondary very early. I would also assume that they probably know our gameplan is to try and win the time of possession. That being the case, I imagine they're probably going to try and score fairly quickly to take us out of our running game.

Therefore, that's the premise for this discussion is that in the event this situation does occur and we have no choice but to have a shootout, can Romo and the offense stay in the game?

I believe Parcells should have a contingency gamplan that allows our offense to be successful. We have T.O. and Glenn, Witten, Jones, Barber and the most important piece - a quarterback who to this point, has shown great pocket presence and abilty to avoid the rush with the ability to read the defenses.

I really like our chances.

It won't be a shoot out, we will shut them out. :)

that would be soooo awesome if we shut them out and score around 42 points on them
