He is not a lock to make the PS.we are keeping some extra linemen and even a kicker on the PS.

Admittedly, I didn't think this guy had much of a chance. But I guarantee he isn't one of the next players cut on the 80-man roster.

According to McCarthy, he's around the play all the time in practice. Appears to be working hard at camp.

I haven't seen anything from Ridgeway, which was my initial thought on him. And then I was hopeful, only to be disappointed after watching him against NFL players. He just isn't there yet. So that's one guy who I can see Tafua beating out.

And Gholston . . . What's up with him? Haven't heard much about him at all during camp?

I personally like Basham, but many insist he's a just an average guy.

So, what are you thoughts on UDFA Mike Tafua making this roster? The only downside is he's already 27-years-old (I think he's a Mormon from Utah).

But the upside of that is his body has fully matured. He appeared to have the athleticism in the preseason.

So what are you thoughts on Tafua making the roster?

Does he have a snowball's chance?
Since the first minute he was drafted I told you guys Gholston was a bad pick. 5 offensive lineman were taking with the next 10 picks.

His age does not matter.
The NFL is only looking at what you got for 4 to 5 years.
So that should not hurt him.

I believe it was meant to be comedically curt, but not rude. Sure, he could have said, "I don't recall seeing anyone by that name on the team.", which would have sounded more genuine to your ears, but how many times have we seen "Who?" among the first responses in a thread about a little known player? Yet I've never seen anyone get chastised for it.

WHAT ???

:lmao:

I saw his name mentioned once against the Chargers, but I don't remember if he actually made a play or got a penalty.

He had a sack and a batted ball I believe. Kept an eye on him since someone sung his praises here because Mike M called him out for his play in camp. Would like to see him stick around on the PS and maybe be available for a call up if there's injuries. Good underdog story.

He has one more game, remember Drew Pearson allegedly made the team because of a special teams block he made in the last pre-season game way back when.

Not saying that will be the case again, just that there are a number of things that could happen that will bump his stock up. I'm a fan of success stories like that anyway....

in regards to the cowboys? guy has 30k posts and is a moderator on a Cowboys fan page lol. I don't think I've seen "Who" in regards to someone on our team, on our message board unless it was a comically misspelled name.

No, I don't see Mika Tafua making the 53. He is small and slow. He knows how to play football better than many others, but that won't be enough.

UDFAs are much more likely to make the practice squad than draft picks regardless of what they didn't in the preseason.
- All teams had a chance to sign any given UDFA.
- There is often a team that would have drafted a draft pick if the Cowboys didn't beat them to the punch.
- i.e. Some team or teams probably had a 6th or 7th round grade on Ridgeway.

Speaking of Ridgeway, you really have to watch closely to see that he does have a very good skill of shedding a blocks to tackle a RB.
- He does not hold his ground like fans probably expected which is a problem; however, he appears to have very strong hands to shed.
- He also moves really well for a big man. Not a Marinelli 'quick twitch' player, but he is 'light on his feet'.
- His issue holding his ground is very similar to rookie Trysten Hill.
- Hill was strong vs straight ahead 1-on-1 blocking but struggled with angle blocks and double-teams.
- It is a technique issue of learning to play vs angle blocks and learning to play with leverage.
- Odighi is the master of that craft. He can somehow anchor vs double teams by two 320 pound OL despite weighing less than 300.

I kind of like Tafua, but unless he blows up against Seattle in a major way, I see no chance that he can make it onto the 53 man roster.

Lawrence
Fowler
Williams
Armstrong
Golston (part-time DT)
Basham

Tafua, IMO, is behind every one of those guys. Probably way behind. The team obviously isn’t going to keep 7 DE’s (really 8 if you count Parsons also playing some DE).

The only one that I might see the team evaluating Tafua in front of, would be Basham, and that is primarily because he’s much cheaper than Basham. Since Tafua is already 25 years old, he really isn’t a whole lot younger than Basham.

So, unfortunately for Tafua… I just can’t see it happening. However, I do think they’ll bring him onto the practice squad and let him try again next year.

Just my opinion.

Just out of curiosity.

What has Gholston done?

Haven't seen him at all.

Watching this guy give maximum effort play after play has me rooting for him.

Same here.

In some ways, I may use him rather than Gholston, depending on how Gholston is playing.

I have this weird hunch Gholston may be on the bubble.

Anyway, I think his chances are better than I first thought. And I am paying attention.

He's a left side guy. I think he has a shot. He's on the cusp, one way or the other.

I pay attention to what's relevant. I don't care about the pet cats of a few people. If they actually make it, I'll pay attention.

You must have missed his sack vs Chargers and all the glowing comments on him from training camp amirite?

This is guy is always around the ball, physical and technique sound.

High IQ leader who also produced. Led PAC-12 in sacks AND pressures in 2021.

Ridge may be a surprise cut. Hate 2 say that. He hasn't really done a thing except be a hot head.

Exactly, Ridgeway is who got us fined for having practices that were too physical.

I'm not upset that McCarthy got fined. But if the Cowboys get caught doing that again, they lose a draft pick.....

How did they find out our practices were too physical? Well, that was the day Ridgeway was sent to the locker room for getting into it with Ball.

This guy is a headache waiting to happen . . . a knucklehead.
