Can We Justify a Roster Spot for Mika Tafua

I don't see Tufua and Bronson on that bubble. I think they are strictly PS. I could be wrong, but some of the PS choices are calculated on who you think can clear waivers, and both of those guys should be able to clear because 1) they were UDFAs so no one lost out on them in the draft and 2) they haven't been terrors this preseason, even if they have flashed some good play.
Yeah, that’s what I’ve been expecting for Tafua. I think he is a lock for the practice squad.

in regards to the cowboys? guy has 30k posts and is a moderator on a Cowboys fan page lol. I don't think I've seen "Who" in regards to someone on our team, on our message board unless it was a comically misspelled name.
You've never seen someone post that, when "so and so" was being cut, or just signed from ps or another team? I see that in probably 80% of threads regarding an unfamiliar player. It's usually in the first three or four replies.

Golston has been playing some 5T as gimmesix mentioned. Those guys don’t stick out a lot (which is why I haven’t really noticed him either) but are a vital part of the run defense. I haven’t focused on him particularly, but he has been doing his job. That excellent run defense is in part due to him.

I just can’t see the coaches even thinking of cutting him.

As always though, I could be wrong.

Same.

I'm not making any certain predictions. Just trying to figure out the bottom of the 53-roster.

I like that it's a tough call.

Like Risen said, I think teams will be all over some of our cuts.

The roster size should be 58, with a 7 person practice squad

I like that.

And suit 53 for game day.

Just in case.

You're probably right.

Jerry, especially, loves that sunken cost fallacy.

Yes, it's all good. Like I said, @Jake didn't do anything wrong, even if he was being snarky, which I didn't think he was.

Okay. I know I've seen it when practice squad guys got a chance or got cut. Maybe even a few guys farther down in the roster. Either way, doesn't matter.

Not being "obtuse" at all. I've literally never heard of him, and highly doubt I ever will in a real NFL game.

But be edgy, if you want.

You must not have watched last Saturday night because that kid made a ton of plays throughout the game. He was in the DE and LB rotation and flashed wherever they lined him up. I think he got a sack, a TFL and batted down a couple passes for good measure. It was a very strong showing and it wasn't all in the second half against scrubs. He got snaps early too.

I watched the entire game. I also watched the chat room, game threads, and Fan Zone because it's part of the job I agreed to do here.

I don't study preseason games like I'm making roster decisions with Jerry and McCarthy. Frankly, especially in the second half, they're kind of boring.

I understand some guys love to root for certain dudes to make the team. That's fine. But I also think it's okay to not know every UDFA in camp.

If you pay attention to what's relevant youbwould have noticed Tafua had a good game against the Chargers, including a sack where he just crushed the QB blind sided.

My opinion of "relevant" is different from yours. Preseason games are relevant to the players and coaches participating in them, and the people who make roster decisions. They don't count in the standings, and a bunch of guys playing in them will be looking for a job next week, so they aren't relevant to me.

If you feel differently that's cool, but that doesn't make either of us right or wrong.

Fair enough TBH I didn't know who he was either until he made a few plays.. The first one I chalked up as blind squirrel.. the second one made me go look up who he was.. the third one made me start brainstorming ways to keep him..

Offer him a contract, that'll probably do it....

It's relevant to the makeup of the team, but I get that you don't care about guys fighting to make the bottom of the squad. And yes, neither of us are right or wrong for our opinion. For something you don't care about, your response to the OP was pretty insulting. Would have been better to just leave it unsaid. Anyhow, that is my opinion and apparently the opinion of a few others that read the comments and responded.

I'm all for bringing in all talent for right side edgy rushers, too, in my imaginary 53-man roster.

The reason I like this board is because many people here are hardcore and actually know what they're looking at.

I'm like you, though. At first, I didn't think he had much of a chance. But he keeps showing up. And that has to count for something. At least, it should when they make the decision. I'm not saying he's made the team yet. But I hope they are keeping an open mind about anyone who shows they can play rather than speculate a player can play if only X,Y, or Z.

Fair point. I follow pretty closely every year and some unknowns pop up that you don't remember hearing. It's basically back ups, undrafted etc playing each other.

Yeah but that DE room is pretty crowded.. But if he has another showing like last game this Friday it's going to be hard to hide him on the PS.

YEs, definitely. I mean he is an UDFA...I think it would be a huge step for him to make it onto the PS. But hard not to root for guys like him, living the dream, trying to beat the odds.

I don't think that will be a problem, don't see that he's showed that much, made a couple of plays but he's not going up against all first stringers.
