I don't think we'll see any corner blitzes this game with Smith lined up 5 yards off the sideline. That was a stupid play call at the time and we won't be seeing it again. Without that, I see no reason Davis or Watkins would ever be manned up against Smith. If they are, we're toast.

Any defensive Scheme that allows a Safety, let alone a rookie Safety to be matched up mono y mono with Steve Smith is flawed in the first place.

And frankley it wouldnt matter if he got covered by Davis or Watkins, that matchup is grossly in the favor of Steve Smith.

Of course we can, but it is not a good idea at all. That means it might happen.

Yea, we might want to consider giving Watkins a little help and prayers.

Add Roy Williams in deep coverage to that list of concerns

He might get picked off by a waterboy along a deep sideline patterns

I think we will see a lot of Newman on Smith, the way we did last year, and what we did to Santana Moss week 2.

And remember, Davis last year got beat by Ricky Proehl multiple times, he would not do any better, he would do worse against Smith.

If we keep Newman on him we have a much better chance, and i just think that the coverage ability, albeit it has been shaky, of Watkins makes me feel better than watching Davis try to catch up with him and being 20 yds behind him.

I bet we see Coleman out there some this week.

I think Coleman stinks overall, but at least he's a former corner and probably has better ball skills than Killa or Watkins.

You can't leave any safety out there with Steve Smith! Look for Smith to be covered by Newman again.

I think the Boys can gameplan for Smith fine, what did he have last year 2 catches for like 10 yards? I'm not worried about Smith, Newman can take care of business, I'm worried about the other guys.

it doesn't even matter. If anybody other than t-new is covering smith, he is gonna cause major problems. and even then, it may not matter. Smith is the best in the game.

I just wish they would tell Watkins to look for the ball. He has been in position every time and never reacts to the ball.

Well said Mick.

These knuckleheads thing a FS should be able to cover one of the best WR's in the NFL without help.

As a matter of fact I may even close this thread because it's ********.

Play the same defense we did last year. It worked pretty darn well.
I don't think Jake will refuse to look Smith's way this time.

He didn't last year, either. Smith was just blanketed. Drew Carter is showing a little something, though, so that's a little worrisome.

Newman wants Smith. Smith wants Newman. Newman will play Smith all day.

That'll be something to watch.

Sunday Night game. Newman goes to the probowl if he plays Smith well and Madden sings his praises.

If the front 7 can bring more than a little bit of heat on a consistant basis, we don't have to worry about Smith, Carter, Keyshawn or anybody else.

After this past game, my concerns lie with whether the defense allows Nick Goings to look like Tiki Barber. If that happens, then Smith and everybody else will have their opportunities. We all witnessed what that looked like on Monday night...

I think this is one the biggest challenges from college to the pro's. The WR in the NFL, Attack the ball in the air and he has to learn to attack it as well..I see the skill set,, the atheltic ability to be a good FS,, he just has to learn a few things and he will be really good.
