Can We Now Say It Was Jimmy Johnson?

Even Switzer could have won us another two rings in the last couple decades. Jerry has gone out of his way to put us at a disadvantage at the HC position ever since Parcells.

Jimmy is gone....he did a great job, but he's gone. I let it go a long time ago. Jerry is here, we may never win another with him in charge, but he's here. Not gonna do me any good to complain, still gonna watch, still gonna wear my swag, still gonna root for them. The minute i put Jerry in front of team...wishing we lose, to embarras him, wishing a player gets hurt etc...that's the minute I'll stop wasting my time with all of it.

The Jones's have had three decades to make it far into the playoffs and win a 6th SB. They have failed at every turn. Cowboys fans had to wait 15 years between Coach Landry and HC Johnson to return to SB glory. I thought that was absurd, but now?

It's time to face the facts, the Jones's don't know how to win a SB. It was always Jimmy Johnson and until the Jones's admit that and change their ways, the Cowboys will always be "what was."

I think we have been saying this for a long time already.

LOL, you really think so? I have been part of the bunch who have always known Jimmy was the mastermind and Jerry only wrote the checks. Even the last Cowboys team that won the SB was Jimmy’s team on auto pilot. Jerry receives no credit for assembly of any SB team. He has proven this every year for the past 30.

Jimmy had the luxury of a stacked team, in part because of inside knowledge of college players coming out, a trade that hoodwinked Minnesota and not having to deal with hard FA decisions just yet!
As evidenced by 4 years of average in Miami before he tucked and bailed it ain’t so easy without a stacked team!
Even if he had stayed he would have had to deal with the same FA defections while trying to put baindaids on the aging and increasingly injured core!

Welcome to the party. We have known that for 30 years. I’ve never met anyone that didn’t believe that. I’m assuming you weren’t sure till you posted this.

It doesn't matter if we say it was Jimmy. What matters is it's been Jerry ever since.

As some have noted, it was the perfect storm. Jerry had just bought the team and wanted to shake things up with the hiring of his college bud. The chemistry was right until it no longer was.

Frankly, I'd say making Switzer the coach to replace Johnson also worked out well at first because Switzer wasn't a coach who came in wanting to change things up. ... And I don't blame Switzer for it starting to come apart as Jerry began to do things all his way instead of having Jimmy to balance him.

The closest we've come to having a counterpart who could balance him since then is Parcells, and he couldn't do it completely. However, at that point in Jerry's ownership of the team, I'm not sure even Jimmy could have done it.

Jimmy deserves a lot of the credit but he was no magician, he failed miserably in Miami, Dallas was a case of lightning in a bottle. A lot of what Jimmy did was contrary to how teams normally did stuff I would say the odds were higher that what he did would have set the team back decades if even a handful of things did not pan out.
Lightening in a bottle , well said. To be a little bit fair to Jerry too, prior to salary cap it was easy to assemble a team with superstars .

But Jerry’s stubbornness did him no favors, Campo era , JG era are wasted years . When he manned up and brought Parcells he should have swallowed pride and gave him more autonomy, instead could not help ( TO was forced on Parcells)

Can't remember a time when I didn't think it was all Jimmy lol.

I don't believe it was all Jimmy Johnson who was responsible for our Superbowl runs. I believe it was a collective effort between Jimmy AND Jerry.

If Jimmy could orchestrate Superbowl teams by himself, then he would have done it in Miami, but he didn't.

“Failed miserably” is a bit harsh considering the roster he left to Wannstedt.

Drafted Madison, Surtain, Taylor, Thomas, etc, and not with premium picks.

The problem was iconic Marino was cooked but didn’t want to quit yet, and he was going out on his own terms. Jay Fiedler was the best they could do thereafter. You see what happens in the NFL without a QB.

Aikman was in his lap when he got to Dallas, but there’s no reason to trash the job Johnson did in order to defend a piece of crap adulterer and dictator like Jerry Jones who thinks he is better than everyone despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary
No doubt having two future first ballot hall of famers already on the team when you start your first training camp helps.

Jerry didn't man up when he brought Parcells on board. It has been well documented why Jerry hired Bill, and it wasn't because Jerry had some epiphany that Bill was going to return the franchise to glory.
