A "must win" game is when you're down to do or die. The farther into the season you are the more critical games become depending on your record. Once you reach Dec you know where you stand and what you have to do to make the playoffs. Because the Cowboys have missed the playoffs the past 2 seasons by only one game some view every game on their schedule as a "must win" for them. Any game vs what some consider a softer opponent some view as a must win when you have several perennial playoff contenders on your schedule. When the schedule comes out every year a lot of fans mark down which games they feel will be wins and which games will be losses. Most feel because KC was 2-14 last season the Cowboys should win on Sunday. I'm sure that's one of the games everyone marked down as a win at the start of the season.
Every game is going to be a little more critical for the Cowboys than a team that routinely wins 10+ games every season. Sundays game vs the Chiefs certainly isn't a "must win" but when looking at the rest of the opponents on the Cowboys schedule it is a game they really need to win or they'll have to win 9 of their last 14 games if they want to assure themselves of a playoff spot. Even 10 wins might not guarantee a playoff spot as strong as the NFC appears so you really don't want to be losing in week 2 to a team that was 2-14 last season when you have Denver, New Orleans at the Super Dome, Green Bay, Chicago on the road in Dec and the Giants up in NY left on your schedule.
