Can we please put back-to-back winning seasons?

We all wanted another winning season, but despite weaknesses, we aren’t 2-3 because coaches lost it in the off season.
  • Last place schedule 2016 — first place schedule 2017
  • Top OL in 2016 — replaced 40% of line with backups in 2017, working on chemistry
  • Weak but veteran secondary in 2016 — replaced 4/5s of Secondary in 2017 with rookies and backups
  • 4 CBs, everyone except Brown have missed camp and/or games, putting rookies and backups behind
  • 2 rotation DL suspended
  • Both starting LBs have been injured, missing 6 games between them
All of that in first 5 games. Yes, coaching could be better; so could DL, LBs, DBs, early QB play, RB play, OL consistency. Thinking different coaches would fix what we are dealing with is like saying last year’s team would have won no matter who the coaches were....wrong. Marinelli is clearly the weak link, but Garrett has gotten better each year, and Linehan was fantastic with his rookie QB last year.

Our record (excluding 2015) usually flows with strength of schedule, that means when we have the best players we win and when we don't we lose. That's an indictment on the coaching staff. I usually look at our schedule and see how many elite qbs we play that year and count those as losses, really good ones is a probable loss, mediocre to bad qbs is a win.

Garrett does just enough to keep his job. The ultimate self preservationist.

He literally is that company guy who sticks around for 30 years and by attrition gets a high level job that he stinks at but flies under the radar enough to keep the position.

Garrett has lunches with Saban and Coach K and Jerrah says wow one day he will be those guys.

A preening, posturing, empty Ivy League shell who didn't pay his coaching dues.
