In a perfect world, Church is a role player who comes in on running downs. Heath seems more athletic, and might have a better upside, and I think long term, he and Wilcox would have a higher ceiling.
It seems like teams are going with guys who could play CB at S. I think Wilcox and Church would have been Pro Bowlers 8 years ago but not today. You need cover guys who aren't afraid to tackle.
Well as I have said all this season, and last season also, the position has to be upgraded.
People hated me for saying Church wasn't the guy last year, but its showing itself this year after he has played in more games. I like them both in run support, but against the pass they are a really bad combo who don't give our CBs near the support they need or deserve.
Church would make a great backup, or even converted to LB, but him and Wilcox shouldn't be starting together at all unless you want to continue to be lit up by half the QBs we face for 400 yards.
Jerry, please give me a ballhawking, playmaking safety for this defense........please. What we aren't realizing is that while Church is really a JAG, Wilcox at this point is adequate but he has a long way to go before he can be considered a difference maker. We need a difference maker at safety in this passing league......desperately.
I agree. I like Wilcox and Church as players. Good against the run, sure tacklers,..
But I'd like a ballhawk Ed Reed type back there at FS. Jairus Byrd if we could afford him.
Edit: I think I figured it out! Sign Nnamdi and convert him to FS. Problem solved?

They can't be satisfied with safety. And they need a ball hawking safety back there. And not everyone has checked off on Church much less Wilcox. Wilcox has the athleticism. Heath looks like he might could play. I need to see a lot more of all those guys. I keep wondering if we are going to ever see Johnson. He must be the next Cliff Harris with the way they are talking. My guess is that is just talk right now. You can't really get excited until you see them play some games.
It's a damn shame that Church couldn't have played in an earlier era.
He could have been an probowl safety in the 90s... Today, he is a liability in the passing game.
Unfortunately, those kind of players don't grow on trees. True ballhawk free safeties are rare these days. The two best ballhawk prospects in the draft IMO were Rambo and Elam and neither has shown ballhawking skills on the field so far.
Well I just feel one of them needs to be changed, whether its Wilcox going to the bench as he develops or Church cause he is a liability in coverage, something needs to change.....now. We can't just keep running these guys out there to get torched every week and thinking things are ok while blaming Romo and the offense for everything.
Agreed. I would rather have 2 coverage safeties out there in todays NFL than 2 guys like we have right now in Wilcox and Church. Now Wilcox has the potential to be more than that, but potential is just that til you live up to it. Potential gets coaches fired.
Church is absolutely a liability in coverage, and playing him with Wilcox only makes things alot worse.
You guys are always forgetting we have ball-hawk Matt Johnson still on our roster
