If we had been fortunate enough to get Eli, he would probably be a much better QB then he is now simply because of the way he would have been brought along. Many have already mentioned it but it's true. Eli has all the ability needed. He just needed to be brought along a bit differently.

I can think of another QB with all the ability we attempted to bring along. It can't all be laid on coaching. Eventually, it's Eli. It's not like Jim Mora wasn't an absolute wack job on his brother, and threw him right in the fire.

Some guys just don't have it. we can't say definitively either way that Manning would have been different with different coaching. He may just not have it.

The Chargers in this decade have orchestrated two of the best trades since the Hershel Walker extravaganza using the 1st pick in the draft both times to do it.

One thing I've noticed about Eli that is directly opposite from Peyton is that Eli seems to almost get bullied by his more rebellious wild acting teammates especially Shockey but to a lesser extent Burress as well.


Their personalities seem to be bigger than his and he just seems to get swallowed up by their shenanigans at times. This would never happen with Peyton who always without forcing his hand let's everyone know who's in charge.

I think this is a critical character flaw in the makeup of a QB ... one that compromises his ability to lead.

Eli is not an elite talent. He is an average talent who was vastly overrated and overdrafted.

Those closest we would have gotten a chance to pick up a what we believed to be a franchise QB would have been in the Campo era when we went 5-11 three straight years (2000-2002).

No, it was Newman we got instead of Leftwitch. Roy we got before even Bill got here.

And I was on Leftwitch bandwagon, but at that time I did want to see what we had in Quincy/Chad (Romo wasn't in picture that much at that time). Now more and more, I believe I am wrong on Leftwitch. I really thought Leftwitch woudl have better career than Palmer But then I didn't see Palmer much in College as I saw Leftwitch.

thing is you don't trade 3 picks for a guy to sit on the bench for 2-3 years however. this is also Eli's 3rd season on a veteran team with all-world RB and good WR/TE play. enough excues

I too think Eli Manning should have been brought along slowly, but what I do laugh at is that, Giants GM claiming before they took him, that he is the best prospect he has seen in 20 years at QB. Now that was bull crap if I have ever seen one.

I have seen enough of Eli Manning in school to think that he would be good prospect, and at the time of Draft, he was the most ready QB. Since Big Ben was big projection and a big hit, if he turned out to be real deal, since he played in lower level of competition. Phillip Rivers was more sure shot than Big Ben, but question mark because of his funky Machanics.

So Eli was naturally the first choice. But I think he is hamstrung by knuckle heads he has for Recievers. At the same time, he is not a great prospect that Giants thought he was. And he has been put in an lose-lose prospect pretty much. Since he has the most pressure among the three QBs drafted that year and much of that was his own doing.

At the time Eli was drafted, there was a personality typing expert that claimed that his Myers-Briggs personality type was going to hold Eli back. He has a similar personality to Peyton, but there is one characteristic that tends to make Eli a little harder on himself.

Anyway, I thought it was a bunch of hooey at the time (even though this guy successfully predicted that Manning would be a star wile Leaf would be a dud). However, in watching Manning over the last three years, it is very apparent that when things start going bad for him, they often end up getting a lot worse before they get better. Maybe there's something to it after all.

I wonder what Romo's personality type is?
